Chapter 8: The City Bleeds
Nocturne is alive. But it's screaming.
Fires blaze across corporate districts. Explosions shake streets. Sirens wail continuously, barely audible over gunfire and the distant screech of overturned cars. Black Crown's operatives move like shadows, ruthless and coordinated.
Kael Voss crouches atop a skyscraper, mask glinting under neon lights, rain streaming down. Beside him, Iris Han monitors drones, camera feeds, and city sensors.
"They've cut off the subway lines," Iris mutters. "Civilians trapped below. Hospitals compromised. They're hitting every weak point at once."
Kael's jaw tightens.
"No one dies tonight… if I can help it."
OPERATION COUNTERSTRIKE
Kael and Iris split their strategy:
Rooftops: Intercept drone patrols and snipers.
Streets: Disable Black Crown squads using silent tactics.
Subway: Guide trapped civilians to safety.
The city is a chessboard, and Kael moves like a phantom. Every movement precise, every shadow a weapon.
Iris hacks street cameras to create illusions of Kael appearing in multiple locations. Black Crown forces hesitate, unsure where the Wraith is real or projected.
CIVILIANS IN DANGER
Kael slides down a fire escape into a narrow alley. A group of panicked civilians is trapped by armed operatives.
He doesn't hesitate:
A flash grenade blinds the attackers.
He moves like a shadow, knocking two unconscious, disarming the rest.
Iris remotely opens a security gate, guiding the civilians to safety.
One of the civilians whispers:
"Thank… you…"
Kael's eyes, visible through the mask, are cold but determined.
"Stay quiet. Stay alive."
VIKTOR HALE STRIKES AGAIN
From above, Viktor Hale drops into the street, cybernetic reflexes making him nearly untouchable.
Kael meets him mid-alley. Gun-fu precision. Knife strikes. Sparks fly from nearby pipes as bodies collide with metal walls.
Iris guides Kael through the chaos.
"You can't take him head-on!" she yells.
Kael smirks under his mask:
"Watch me."
The fight rages. Viktor lands heavy blows, but Kael anticipates, countering, using the environment as weapons.
THE TURN
From her skyscraper control hub, Mara Kade watches.
"They're good," she says, voice calm, almost amused.
"But the city bleeds tonight… and that's only the beginning."
Above, sirens echo. Explosions. Neon flickers. Rain falls like fire.
Kael emerges from the alley, bruised but alive, dragging a group of civilians to safety.
Iris looks at him, eyes wide:
"How do you keep going?"
Kael's voice is low, almost a whisper:
"Because if I stop… they win."
The city is bleeding. And the Wraith is the only one standing between its shadows and the abyss.
ENDING NOTE
From a distant rooftop, Elias Thorn watches Kael's silhouette disappear into the chaos.
"He's not just surviving," Elias mutters.
"He's fighting… for something real."
But above them all, Mara Kade smiles.
"Let them think they're winning," she whispers.
"The city will learn… you can't outrun shadows forever."
Nocturne waits. Silent. Merciless. Alive.
