"That's fine," I say quickly. "Really. I just want to… look around take in the scenery."
She arches a brow. "You sure?"
"Yes."
Another man appears beside us.
"I've caught your eye a few times watching us you can join if you want," he says casually, nodding toward a corner where a small group has gathered.
I stiffen, then shake my head. "I'm good."
He shrugs, not offended. "Offer stands."
When he walks away, my grip on the glass loosens.
Claire watches me for a second, then nods. "I'll be nearby. Don't disappear on me again."
"I won't," I say.
She leaves, disappearing into the crowd with ease.
I stay where I am, sipping my drink slowly watching the people but careful not to stare so I don't get approached again.
I feel out of place and oddly invisible
A few minutes pass before I see him, the reason I'm out here in this club today.
He's sitting where he was last time, half-turned toward the crowd like he owns the spac with the same careless confidence.
