Chapter 44 - Chapter 44

The morning light in Konoha was golden and heavy, filtering through the dust motes of the Hokage's office. Tsunade was already knee-deep in a mountain of scrolls, her brow furrowed in a permanent scowl of administrative frustration. Shizune moved silently beside her, sorting reports with the practiced grace of a seasoned assistant.

The silence was shattered by a sudden, violent POOF.

When the smoke cleared, Jiraiya was standing in the center of the room, leaning back with a grin that was far too wide for the early hour. "Yo, Tsuna! Miss me already?"

Tsunade didn't even look up from her ink. "You're late, Jiraiya. I assume you have something for me, or did you just come here to annoy me while I'm doing actual work?"

Jiraiya's expression shifted, becoming uncharacteristically sober. "Business first, then. I looked into that lead the brat pulled out of Sasori's dying mouth. Tenchi Bridge. My network confirms that an Akatsuki spy is slated to meet a contact there. Whether it's a trap or a genuine opening into Orochimaru's inner circle remains to be seen, but the bridge is definitely hot."

Tsunade finally set her brush down, her eyes sharp. "I'll have my own informants cross-check your findings. If it's a trap, I won't send my people into a meat grinder. But if there's a chance to cut the head off that snake..."

"Right, right," Jiraiya waved a hand dismissively. "Anyway, business aside—where is the brat? I haven't seen his ugly mug since I got back into the village."

"He was at the Senju compound dojo at the crack of dawn," Shizune answered with a weary smile. "He was going absolutely havoc on the training dummies with twin bamboo swords. The noise was vibrating through the walls so loudly Lady Tsunade actually threw him out."

Tsunade grunted. "I told him if I heard one more thwack before my first coffee, I'd punch him through the monument. Last I saw, he was heading toward the pond area. He's probably back in his house eating breakfast by now."

Jiraiya chuckled, but then he noticed the way Tsunade was looking at him—a strange, scrutinizing gaze. "Uh, Tsuna? Why are you looking at me like I just peed in the fountain?"

"Jiraiya," Tsunade began, her voice dropping into a dangerous Silk. "What exactly did you teach Naruto on that training trip?"

Jiraiya blinked, confused. "Eh? I sent you the scrolls, didn't I? His chakra control, his Sage techniques, the combat theory—it's all in the reports."

"I don't mean in the training sense, you old goat," Tsunade snapped, leaning over her desk. "I mean in the human sense. How did you teach that boy to flirt?"

The legendary Sannin froze. "The brat? Flirting? With who?"

"Oh, Jiraiya-sama, you should have seen it," Shizune chimed in, a blush creeping into her own cheeks as she remembered the gate at the Hidden Sand. "He didn't just save the Kazekage. He had the Princess of the Sand, Temari, practically melting. And the best part? He wasn't even acting like a pervert. He was... smooth. But the way Temari was looking at him... it was like she didn't want him to leave."

Tsunade crossed her arms. "I honestly didn't think a degenerate like you could teach him to be that effective. Usually, your 'flirting' ends with a woman throwing a barstool at your head."

Jiraiya's jaw dropped. He looked between the two women, trying to process the idea of the loud-mouthed, orange-wearing kid he knew behaving like a romantic lead. "Wait, wait, wait. You're telling me that while I was out scouting, Naruto was in Suna playing the heartbreaker? And he's not even... he didn't mess it up?"

"Hardly," Shizune laughed softly. "Temari whispered in his ear that she was coming after him the next time she's is in Konoha. And she didn't mean with her giant fan. She was genuinely happy saying goodbye. Honestly, Lady Tsunade and I both think if the rest of the team hadn't been standing right there, she probably would have kissed him goodbye."

Jiraiya stood in stunned silence for a moment. Then, a slow, proud, and slightly devious grin spread across his face. He rubbed his chin, looking at the ceiling.

"Well... maybe some of my natural charisma rubbed off on him after all," Jiraiya mused, puffed up with pride.

"Don't give yourself credit," Tsunade scoffed, though her eyes were thoughtful. "He's different, Jiraiya. It's like he's lived a whole other life in these last three years. He's calm, he's calculated, and apparently... he's charming. I just hope he knows how to handle a woman like Temari. She'll eat him alive if he isn't careful."

"He's a Jonin now, Tsuna," Jiraiya said softly, the pride in his voice turning genuine. "In more ways than one."
