Amon broke it open Karoo's Jar.
With a sharp crack, it shattered under Karoo's eager gaze.
"Kwa, kwa!"
A pill-like item dropped out.
The moment it appeared, Karoo started hopping around excitedly as if the thing mattered to him more than anything else.
Amon raised a brow.
Could Karoo somehow sense what the item was?
"Lily, ask him what he's so excited about."
"Okay."
Lily nodded and quickly spoke with Karoo.
"Master, he says he can feel that the pill is extremely important to him. He doesn't know why, only that it is."
Interesting.
Animals often trusted their instincts more directly than humans did. Since even Karoo himself could not explain it clearly, Amon stopped asking and checked the item instead.
[Psyduck Gene Pill]: A pill carrying Psyduck's power. After use, the user gains all of Psyduck's abilities.
Amon finally understood.
No wonder Karoo was reacting like this.
This was not a small improvement. If he ate it, he would stop being an ordinary Super Spot-Billed Duck and become something entirely different, a duck capable of using abilities and training further.
That hange would reach down to the soul itself.
"Mr. Amon, what is it?" Vivi asked, watching Karoo bounce around nonstop. "Karoo looks so happy."
Cobra and the others were just as curious. This was the first time they had seen Karoo react like this.
Amon stopped keeping them in suspense.
"This is called a Psyduck Gene Pill. It's anitem that can evolve Karoo's life itself."
"As long as he eats it, he'll gain some very powerful abilities."
Psyduck always looked a little silly, but its moves were not weak at all. Telekinesis alone made that clear.
"Evolve?" Vivi's eyes widened. "Mr. Amon, you mean if Karoo eats this, he'll undergo a real life evolution?"
"That's right."
Amon nodded.
"Congratulations, Karoo. Here, eat it."
"Kwa!"
Karoo opened his beak and swallowed the Psyduck Gene Pill in one gulp.
The moment it went down, white light began to spread through his body.
Karoo could feel the pill changing him from the inside out. The transformation was gentle, almost warm. It was a quiet shift from one kind of life into another.
The people around stared at him.
"Kwaaa..."
After a while, the change finally ended.
On the outside, Karoo did not look much different. But inside, everything had changed. His body, his channels, the way energy flowed through him, all of it had become completely different.
Amon could feel it too.
Karoo was no longer the same duck as before.
"Master, he says thank you."
Lily continued serving as the translator between Amon and Karoo.
Amon laughed.
"Tell him there's no need to thank me. This was his own luck. Oh, and ask him to show us a few of his abilities."
He was very curious about what had changed inside Karoo after taking the pill.
Lily translated, but a moment later she blinked and looked back.
"Master, he says he doesn't know how."
Amon stared.
What?
Did the evolution fail?
That should not have happened. According to the system, Karoo should have inherited Psyduck's abilities completely.
For one brief moment, Amon even wondered whether he needed the classic treatment, a good knock on the head. That was how Psyduck in the story always seemed to work.
But before he could think too far, Lily spoke again.
"Master, he says this is his first evolution, so he doesn't know how to use the energy in his body yet. But I think I can teach him."
Amon nodded immediately.
"Good. Then teach him."
Lily was a Pokémon too, and like Psyduck, she belonged to the Psychic type. If anyone could help Karoo understand the new power, it would be her.
After a short while, Lily turned back with a pleased look.
"Master, he says he understands now."
"Good. Then let him use Telekinesis on those broken stones over there."
Amon pointed toward the scattered ruins.
"Kwa!"
Karoo nodded. His eyes sharpened, and in the next instant, the broken stones lying around the ruins all rose high into the air.
"It worked."
Amon's heart lifted.
Vivi looked just as delighted.
Karoo had grown up with her. Seeing him become stronger made her very happy.
"Now send them flying over there. Let's see the power."
"Kwa kwa!"
Karoo pointed with one wing.
The floating stones shot forward through the rain, slicing the air with sharp whistling sounds.
A moment later, they slammed into the distant sand with a heavy explosion.
Boom.
