"Everyone quiet, kids, today's class is about to begin," the teacher demanded, standing in front of a blackboard where large letters read:

The Carriers

As soon as the teenagers fell silent, the teacher began introducing herself as a renowned researcher of the world of Mantara. Her voice carried confidence, like someone used to being listened to.

Hitaru, sitting at the back of the classroom, stopped what he was doing and looked up.

"Today I will explain to you the greatest discovery of our time: the carriers…"

Carriers are people who, aided by science, technology, and now also mana, can carry out dangerous missions or even live peaceful lives in Mantara without suffering the risk of death. This is possible because their minds are transported into an artificial body, extremely realistic, located in the other world.

These people can become workers for large corporations, governors, politicians, or even simple ordinary citizens. Everything depends on their financial capacity.

But do they stay in that body for their entire lives?

No. They do not remain there permanently. Every time they fall asleep in Mantara, they wake up on Earth. However, their body assimilates all the time spent in the other world as if it had been asleep.

Before she could continue, the dismissal bell rang.

As soon as the students heard the familiar screech of the bell, they stood up as fast as they could, gathering with their friends to leave the classroom together.

Hitaru grabbed his things and, already at the classroom entrance, met up with his friends. They left together and headed to a nearby park, talking about the carriers and what they wanted to be in the future.

When it was his turn to speak, Hitaru said that he wanted to become the best carrier streamer. He also mentioned that his favorite streamer was about to go live, so he hurried to say goodbye and ran toward his house.

When he arrived, the first thing he heard was his parents' shouting. They complained about the horrible son they claimed to have raised, because he had not come home from school to clean the entire house.

"But, Mom, classes ended five minutes ago," he protested.

"And do you think we care? Start cleaning right now, before—"

"Alright, Mom, calm down," he replied fearfully.

His brother and sister, sitting on the couch with a video game in hand, looked at him with mocking smiles as he went to get the broom.

I want to watch Halyelis's stream. I'll have to hurry and finish all this.

After a long time cleaning and organizing the house—made worse on purpose by his siblings—he finally finished everything and went to the shared bedroom.

He went in, turned on the laptop, searched for his streamer, and entered the live stream. At that very moment, Halyelis was commenting that the stream would end in a few minutes.

Hearing that, Hitaru made a disappointed expression. He stayed still, not paying attention to the screen, until he finally began typing a message in the chat:

Hello, Halyelis. I just joined the stream because I was helping around the house, but I wanted to tell you that your videos and live streams make me very happy. They cheer me up and give me good days even during bad moments.

When Halyelis read the message, she smiled and thanked him sincerely. She said that she enjoyed doing that kind of stream about Mantara and, as a carrier, entertaining people like him.
