Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

Then Sofia appeared behind me, stepping out from the crowd with that gentle smile of hers.

"Oh, Chloe." she said warmly, "you look so pretty in that dress."

Chloe turned, eyes lighting up. "Hello, Sofia! Thank you."

Sofia stepped closer. She placed a gentle hand on my shoulder, her touch warm through my shirt, and leaned in a little toward Chloe. "It's been so long since I've seen you, Chloe. You've grown into such a beautiful young woman. That dress suits you perfectly"

Chloe's cheeks tinted a soft pink. "Thank you, Sofia. You look amazing too. I love the gold,it's so elegant."

Sofia laughed softly, that warm, melodic sound she always had, her breasts rising with the motion inside the deep plunge of her neckline. The fabric strained a fraction, the creamy tops of her cleavage swelling just a little more, and I had to force my eyes away before I got caught staring. "Oh, this old thing? It's nothing compared to how excited Robbie here has been about this party. He's been counting down the days, haven't you, Robbie? Couldn't stop talking about how much he was looking forward to seeing certain people."

She said it with that playful melody in her voice, her eyes flicking to me for a split second, a knowing sparkle in them. The hint was obvious and my face burned hot right away. Sofia had always been the sweet one, but she had this teasing side that came out when she wanted to nudge things along, like she could see right through me and my crush on Chloe.

I pushed her arm lightly, trying to play it off. "Sofia, go. Don't you have to check on the baby or something?"

Sofia just giggled, covering her mouth with one hand, but she didn't move right away. Chloe's blush deepened, her eyes darting between us, and I could tell she'd caught the hint too. Her fingers twisted the hem of her pink dress nervously, the fabric shifting slightly over her thighs, the high stockings gripping her skin just below where the skirt flared out.

"Please don't mind her" I said quickly, my voice coming out a little too rushed, face still on fire. "She says nonsense sometimes. You know how sisters are."

Chloe laughed, light and a bit shy, her cheeks still pink but her eyes meeting mine with that soft warmth I loved. "It's okay. I get it."

Sofia finally took the cue, though not without one last wink in my direction. "Alright, alright, I'll leave you two alone. Have fun!"

She drifted off into the crowd, her golden dress swaying with her hips, the high slit flashing a glimpse of bare thigh before she disappeared among the dancers.

The room felt a little quieter now, even though the music was still thumping and people were laughing around us. Chloe and I stood there for a second, the awkwardness hanging in the air. I rubbed the back of my neck, trying to think of something to say that didn't sound stupid. "Uh… it's kind of crowded and noisy here. Want to go somewhere quieter?"

She nodded, smiling. "Yeah, that sounds good. Lead the way."

I turned and started weaving through the crowd, Chloe close behind me.

We made it to the balcony doors, the cool night air rushing in as I pushed them open. The balcony was small, just a few chairs and a railing overlooking the backyard. It was quieter out here, the party noise muffled behind the glass doors, like we were in our own little world.

Chloe stepped out beside me, hugging her arms a little against the chill. "It's nice out here."

"Yeah." I agreed, closing the door behind us. "Better than inside. Less… everything."

We leaned against the railing side by side, looking up at the stars. Chloe pointed up at a bright cluster. We taked like that for some time about stars and other things.

Time slipped by without me noticing. The music from inside had slowed down a bit, shifting to softer songs as the night went on.

After a while, I felt the moment building inside me. Here it felt like the right place, quiet, just us, stars watching. I straightened up a little. "Hey, Chloe… I have something for you."

She turned to me, eyes curious, head tilting slightly. "What? For me?"

"Yeah." I pulled the box from my pocket, hands a little shaky as I held it out. "It's… for you."

She took it carefully, fingers brushing mine, and opened the lid. Her eyes lit up instantly, a small gasp escaping her lips. "Robbie… this necklace is beautiful. The heart pendant, it's so cute. Where did you get it?"

I rubbed the back of my neck, face heating up. "I saw it at the mall a few weeks ago. Thought it would look good on you."

She touched the silver chain gently, lifting it out of the box. "It's perfect. I love it. Thank you so much."

"No problem," I said, voice a little rough. "Want me to help you put it on?"

She nodded, turning around and lifting her hair off her neck. I stepped closer. My fingers fumbled with the clasp for a second, brushing her warm skin, and I felt her shiver slightly under the touch. The necklace settled against her collarbone, the tiny heart pendant resting just above the swell of her breasts, drawing my eyes down to the smooth curves exposed by the low neckline.

She let her hair down and turned back, touching the pendant with her fingers. "How does it look?"

"Amazing." I said honestly. "It suits you."

I gathered my courage, heart pounding. "Chloe, there's something else. I—"

A loud noise cut me off from inside followed by shouts and laughter mixed with worried voices.

Chloe turned, eyes wide. "What happened? That sounded bad. Let's go see."

She was already moving toward the door, her skirt swaying, thighs flashing in the gap to her stockings. I stood there, words stuck in my throat, the confession frozen on my tongue. Fuck. I gulped hard, frustration bubbling up. I'll tell her after this, I told myself. Before she goes back tonight. No matter what.
