Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1- A DREADFUL DAY

NIKITA'S POV

I pushed open the door with a shove immediately I got to the dormitory. The temperature outside was low but still, I felt as though I was evaporating. I used the small towel hanging on my neck to wipe the beads of sweat that were rolling down my pale face.

I had been jogging for almost two hours, I had actually lost count of the time. There were voices inside the sitting room as I walked in. I lived in Atlas Hall and it was one of the most prestigious dorms as far as Blackridge university was concerned.

Atlas hall was home to the elite kids of the university and although how I lived there at Atlas Hall when everybody thought that I was a commoner, remained a mystery to all of them.

The dorm had three different rooms plus the two bathrooms. There was a sitting room and then my room and Rita Bennett's. Rita is my roommate. We have been roommates and coursemates since freshman year.

I open the door and enter the exquisite looking sitting room. It had two large couches and the room was designed according to Rita's taste. I never had any preferences or objections when it came to how she wanted the place to look like. I always let her do her things. Even the chamomile scent that filled up the place was hers.

The 60 inches plasma TV, courtesy of Dr. Bennett, Rita's ever loving dad was on and blaring. No wonder I had thought that I had heard voices when I first walked in.

"Rita." I called out. I didn't hear any answer. "She left things on again." I muttered to myself and continued wiping the sweat of my skin whilst placing my sneakers back on the shoe rack in the corridor that separated Rita's room from mine.

"Today, we have a very special guest with us." The host on the TV said.

It was Nichole Freeman. The host of 'The wave', one of my favourite TV shows. She was mine and Rita's ultimate favourite host, with her beautiful British accent and her immaculate sense of dressing, she always had a way of capturing both our hearts.

"Live with us here in New York city is my favourite, your favourite and our favourite award winning artist, Kiki Sparks." She announced.

The cloud ululated. They were screaming at the top of their voices as Kiki Sparks appeared. Her dress was all golden and stopped at her knee. She wore black heels that had shiny glitters all over it. Her face was carefully made up and her curly hair was dolled up in a messy bun.

I scoffed as she smiled and waved to the crowd.

"Oh my God." Nichole gushed as 'Kiki Sparks' walked up to the stage and embraced her.

"What a pleasure that you agreed to appear on my show, Kiki." The much older woman blushed.

I hated her for that immediately. Tripping and fanning over a kid much younger than you without self-control would be the first thing that I have ever found to be wrong about Nichole Freeman. She was perfect to me.

"You just bagged three more awards yesterday with your latest single 'Love mines.' How do you feel?"

I watched as the second daughter of the Monroe family, the only legitimate heiress of the Monroes, whom everybody knew as Kiki Sparks and who I knew to be Elara Monroe, plunged into a series of narration of made up lies and reading from a carefully prepared script.

She talked with so much emotion.

"She should have been an actress instead. What a waste of talent." I spat out before turning off the Television angrily.

"Thief!" I spat out one more time before wiping the tear that had escaped my cold eyes.

Yesterday, Rita had made me watch the awards show with her. And I had watched her steal my spotlight. She had won three different awards. Most viewed music video, best single of the year and of course, best artist.

I almost cried while watching it. It had taken every ounce of self-control inside me to resist smashing the Television into pieces. She won all of those awards with my....

My phone rang interrupting my angry thoughts. I didn't even realise that I was fuming until I looked down to notice that I had been grabbing the couch leather quite tightly.

It was Rita.

"Girlllll." Her shrill voice rang off as I answered the call. I just hoped that the call had nothing to do with Nichole hosting Kiki Sparks on her show.

"Where have you been?" She asked.

"Jogging." I answered curtly before turning to my room.

"And where has your phone been?" She asked.

That was her way of telling me that something was happening. Or that something had happened. I just hoped it was nothing bad.

"I just got in Bennett. What's up?" I asked with not even the least of concern.

I opened the coke in my hand. I know I was supposed to stop taking gaseous drinks but coke helps me think and I need it to help calm my nerves at the moment.

"It's Geller." She said,

The professor. The woman had been my nightmare for the past one year and although I still feared her, I had found a way to deal with her and it was no longer scary.

"What about her?" I asked with the same careless abandon.

"She rescheduled her class to 8am." I choked on the coke immediately and spat the contents all out on the floor.

"What?" I asked. My eyes were teary. I was coughing.

"Niki?" Rita's worried voice came. "Are you okay?" She asked.

"Yes. Yes, I am. Where are you?" I asked. It was already five minutes past eight and there was no way I was going to escape being scolded by Professor Rose Geller.

"I am in class. Hurry up and get here, and oh, she is already here." She hung up abruptly.

Professor Geller is the most feared and respected among all the lecturers in my department. She is a very strict woman and getting on her bad side is not something that I want to do on a Monday morning.

I quickly run the shower and peel off my jogging gears from my body. I am about to step into the tub when my phone rings again.

I scramble out and pick it up.

Fucking Gloria Stein. I curse out loudly.

"Where are you?" She says in a tone that I don't seem to quite understand but I understand that she doesn't love the fact that she is calling me this morning.

"Home." Is my curt reply.

"Where is home?" She asked again.

"Dormitory." Same curt tone.

"Be here in 30 minutes." I almost laugh out loud.

"Thirty?" I asked.

She hung up without letting me finish. I hate her. I don't know how I am expected to get to Brooklyn from Upper Manhattan, in thirty minutes. But I know what would happen if I don't hurry up.

I quickly rushed to take a bath. I threw a few things into my bag once I was out of the bath and zipped it up. I opened my wardrobe and picked a pair of black joggers and a black hoodie. My aesthetic is dark and I love black.

I remove my black sneakers from the rack and quickly put them on before hurrying out. I needed to get to the studio. I would deal with Professor Geller much later.

I quickly texted Rita that something urgent came up as I stepped into the elevator. I hurried towards the entrance of the school gate as I texted Maya to come up with an excuse for the professor.

Maya has been my best friend for years, she was my partner in crime and although we didn't stay together, we were still the perfect team for anything.

I slipped my phone inside the cross bag and pulled up my hoodie over my head, just as I looked up, I almost got run over by a car, but still it pushed me into the nearest security stand and I found myself crashing on the hard concrete floor before I could realise.

Hell no!
