Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: First Blood

It was a late quiet night and most people are already asleep. Cafra and his friends are hanging out in the street under a lamp post. Then from afar a man stumbled out of a narrow alleyway, screaming for help. His clothes were torn, one arm hanging by his side, blood dripping down his legs. He limped forward, eyes wide, constantly looking behind him as if someone is chasing him. It was really dark so they couldn't see what the man was running from.

Gil: "Guys, look at that man. what the hell happened to him?"

Cafra: "I have no idea. but lets go help him."

They decided to help him but as they start to move towards the man, something from the dark shadows emerged and jumped at the man. It was an Aswang. Its skin is as dark as the night, long tangled hair covering most of its face, razor sharp fangs, hairy legs like a beast's, and eyes as red as a scarlet moon. The creature tackled him and starts mauling, bones cracked, sound of flesh ripping from the body, blood splattered across the pavement. eating parts of its victim. Cafra and his friends froze in fear, they don't know what to do.

Erlo: "Shouldn't we be running? We could be next!"

Gil: "We got new powers, right? Why don't we use it against that aswang?"

The others agreed and prepares to attack. The Aswang noticed and stared at them, shrieked and starts running towards them. It moved so fast that they couldn't follow it's movements, a blur of claws, sharp teeth, and black hair. It rushed towards Amon aiming at his face. It caught him off guard, crossed his arms and a sudden burst of wind exploded around him, an uncontrolled shield of air to protect him from the attack, still, it was barely strong enough to block the attack and still ended up having grazing his arm, sliced. Blood sprayed.

Arja: "Amon!!"

Amon: "I-I'm fine! Just keep it off me!"

The Aswang quickly turned around closing in for another attack. Ric thrusts his palm forward. A compressed blast of wind exploded outward. The shockwave hit the aswang in the chest, launching it across the street and cracking the wall it slammed into.

Ric: "Damn.. This power is strong but it eats my stamina like crazy."

The aswang rose from the rubble, furious, bones twisting to realign. It readied for another attack, seeing Ric trying to catch his breath the aswang goes and targets him. It jumped on the roof and went straight to attack Ric from above. Erlo gulped, hands shaking.

Erlo: "Okay... fire... fire..! c'mon..!"

A spark flickered on his palm. Then a flame appeared. He hurled it with both hands. A burst of flame spiraled towards the Aswang. But the creature jumped over the fireball, flipping mid-air, and landing behind Erlo before he could react. Luckily, Gil managed do dash and slides in, punched the ground as stones started to coat his arms. He clenched his fists and delivered barrage of punches. Him and the aswang clashed, Gil punching, the aswang weaving unnaturally. The aswang's sharp claws tore chunks off Gil's stone gauntlet.

Gil: "This thing is ridiculous! Its too tough!"

He punches the ground once again. but this time he focused all the stone to gather all on his right fist. As the aswang jumps to attack him, he strike the aswang head-on. he managed to land a hit on the Aswang's shoulder and got it dislocated. But the aswang twisted it to put it back in place. It skidded backwards, crouching low, snarling. From a distance Kael inhaled sharply.

Kael: "Stay back!!"

Using a straw from his drink, he blew bullet-like water drops. Every hit pierced the Aswang's skin, slamming the aswang and pinning it briefly to the concrete. It searched where the attack was coming from. It saw Kael hiding on top of a tree. Kael gritted his teeth, trying to hold it in place, but his water control flickered and the bullets weakened.

Ric: "Kael, It's coming for you! Move..!"

It was sprinting towards Kael. Kael jumped off and rushed to run away. On the other side of the street, Arja grabbed a few rocks on the ground. He closed his hand and as he opened it, the rocks starts glowing. He shoots it using his slingshot. On impact each rocks that hit exploded. The explosion erupted beneath the aswang mid-step, blasting debris and knocking it sideways. One if it's arms dangled for a moment before healing itself.

Arja: "Guys!! It can heal itself. And he heals fast..!"

The Aswang turned toward Cafra, enraged, eyes blazing red, steam coming out of its mouth. Seeing how it moves very fast coming after him, he picked up a stick on the ground next to him, he gripped it tightly. Suddenly, his stone vibrated, a surge shot through his veins. Lightning erupted around the stick, covering it in electric like it was a lightning bolt. He dashed towards the Aswang. Electricity railed behind him, lighting up the street like a storm in motion. The Aswang swings with his razor sharp claws. Cafra slid under its arm, sparks flying off the pavement, he rose ad swings his blade. His lightning blade cut through the aswang's leg, severing it cleanly. The creature howled, collapsing. Before Cafra could strike again to finish off the aswang, the electric energy burned out from the stick and snapped in half. The Aswang's body twisted, bones cracking, hair retracting, it's body shrinking forming into a black dog. In a blur, it vanished into the shadows.

Arja: "It got away! even with all of us we still didn't get to kill it."

Ric: "That means we aren't strong enough. We're still not good at using our powers yet."

Kael: "Yeah, we need to train more. Our attacks were too weak we barely put a scratch on that Aswang"

Erlo: "Yeah, Even if we managed to do alot of damage, the Aswang still managed to escape."

Amon: "I didn't know Aswangs really exist. I thought they were just made up stories from our parents to keep us in check."

Erlo: "Well, we just saw one just now. And we didn't just saw it but we fought it too. I have a feeling it's not the only that exist out there. Maybe more of them will start to show up and attack more people. We need to be ready next time we see one."

Cafra: "Erlo is right. We need to get stronger"

Kael: "Don't you guys find it weird? Yesterday it rained on a very sunny day, then we got these powers, and now an Aswang showed up right before our eyes. I think that rain wasn't any normal rain. There could me more to it, like it caused something."

Cafra: "Let's not worry about that right now. We need to focus on getting stronger otherwise one of us might end up getting badly injured the next time we fight an Aswang."

Erlo: "Or die."

Cafra: "I was gonna say that but I didn't want to scare you guys."

Erlo: "Yo Cafra. Since we got our powers. You don't look that weak anymore."

Cafra: "For some reason when I saw that man getting attacked by the Aswang, it made me want to kill it right away. It's like something is telling me to help."

Amon: "Maybe next time we play warriors again, you won't need Erlo's help anymore."

Gil: "You mean next time we play, Cafra will beat you."

Amon: "Oh shut up man. We know I'm stronger than him."

Gil: "We don't know that for sure. We're stronger than before with our abilities."

Cafra: "I think... I am stronger than all of you now."

Kael: "What did you say now?"

They all laughed. Layed on the ground, exhausted, with a bit of relief. They were glad that none of them died that night. But deep inside, they knew, that they only got lucky. They weren't prepared, they weren't strong enough. If another monster appears, will they be able to survive?
