The Witch of Tallow led Kael into forbidden land.
The valley had once been a holy site, a place where gods were said to have walked freely among mortals. Now it was a wound in the world soul-light leaking endlessly into the sky.
Kael nearly collapsed upon entering.
The Sight exploded outward, overwhelmed by ancient residue fragments of divine souls torn apart during the gods' fall. The air screamed with grief older than humanity itself.
"This is where it began," the Witch said. "Where the gods broke, and where their silence echoes from."
Kael knelt, trembling. He could feel the hunger recoil in fear. Whatever had happened here dwarfed even the Devourer's excesses.
"Can they be healed?" Kael asked.
The Witch hesitated. "Maybe."
That single word terrified him more than a thousand certainties.
