In truth, there were suitable candidates from both the Merak Saintess and Chiyu Peak. Xu Gaocen from Chiyu Peak, for instance, had a relatively close relationship with Yang Chan, but Yang Chan chose none of them.
He knew that none of these people were truly his. He could relax his grip on some of the Spirit Medicine Tower's affairs, even entrust relatively important matters to them, but the final decision-maker had to be him. That position could not be filled by anyone else. Therefore, the person he chose to be his Steward had to be one of his own, and his natural choice for that role was Han Bingyu.
Compared to the others, Han Bingyu's Martial Arts Cultivation and Pharmacist Ability were somewhat lacking, but loyalty was far more important than either of those things. People who weren't loyal to him might do things behind his back, or even set traps for him. All of it was possible, which was why Yang Chan was being so cautious with his choice.
