"This bed is so small. I was afraid I'd fall off, so I had to squeeze in a little. Sorry to crowd you."
A low voice murmured in her ear.
They were so close that Naomi Kenway could even feel his warm breath against her ear.
"You... you're not asleep either?"
"It seems... I can't quite fall asleep."
Naomi Kenway nodded. "Me too..." She trailed off, then changed her tune. "Actually, I'm getting sleepy. You should get some rest."
"Alright." His voice was calm in the darkness. "Good night."
Naomi didn't know if it was her imagination, but she felt Ethan Shaw's voice was even closer now. The warm breath fanning across the side of her ear sent a slight shiver through her; her ears had always been very sensitive.
In this situation, she couldn't very well tell Ethan Shaw to go sleep on the floor. After all, they didn't even have an extra blanket, let alone a spare sheet. She didn't have the heart to make him lie on the carpet just like that.
