"You have a point, but that's all in the future." Cecilia Adler asked again, "Is that okay? Ian, I really want to raise her. She reminds me of myself."
Hearing this, Ian Quincy's resolve wavered. After a long moment of thought, he replied, "Okay, but you need to think this through. Let's not even get into whether my parents will agree for now. Just think about the future—when we have children of our own, how will we balance our relationship with her and with them? What if she gets jealous of how we treat our own kids and hurts them? What would you do?" He added, "It's easy to take on a commitment like this, but impossible to back out of. Sending her back to the orphanage would be out of the question."
"I haven't thought about all that. Some things, if you start thinking about the worst-case scenario, you'll never do them," Cecilia Adler said.
'It's like starting a business. If you only ever think about the possibility of failure, who would ever get started?'
