Seth Quinn coughed, just to make Clara Grant aware of his presence. She needed to raise money, and he had more than enough. Asking him for help was undoubtedly her best option.
But to get money from him, she would have to agree to his condition: marry him!
So, when he saw Clara Grant look over at him, his eyes instantly brightened.
Just as he thought Clara Grant was about to say, "Lend me the money, and I'll agree to marry you," she did speak up. But her words weren't what he'd hoped to hear, and her tone was far from friendly.
"Cherie needs his rest. Mr. Quinn, shouldn't you be leaving?"
Without waiting for Seth Quinn to react, she turned back to the doctor. "Thank you, Doctor. I'll raise the money as soon as I can."
The doctor nodded and headed for the door. As he brushed past Seth Quinn, he gave him a light, seemingly accidental bump, but continued on his way without breaking his stride.
