"Laura's face went completely pale. Then she rushed out of the police station and headed straight for the hospital. On the way, Laura must have called you a hundred times, but your phone was always off. In the end, she had to ask Hannah Hale to look for you everywhere."
Dr. Lorell was supposed to be in the outpatient clinic today, but he had a last-minute family emergency, so he dragged Aiden Shaw to cover for him. On top of that, Aiden's phone had run out of battery and turned off.
Aiden Shaw leaned against his desk, the rising smoke hiding the cold fury in his eyes.
"I understand. You can go home now."
Peach nodded. "Okay, Dr. Shaw, I'll be leaving then."
Aiden Shaw turned, tapped the ash from his cigarette into the ashtray, and took his phone out of his lab coat pocket. He plugged it in to charge, then powered it on.
A few seconds later, his phone screen lit up with missed call notifications. All of them were from her.
