Vera Xavier politely declined. "Mr. Nathan, you don't have to worry. I'm not that helpless. I can handle something like this. I'm just really sorry to have troubled you to come all this way in person."
"I'm just an old man with nothing better to do at home anyway. It's good to get out for a walk," Master Nathan said with a wide smile. "Besides, we're family. When one of us is in trouble, how can we not help?"
He was back to being that mischievous yet lovable old man, completely lacking the formidable presence he had when he furiously confronted the Kane mother and son that morning.
Vera Xavier began with a soft laugh, "Mr. Nathan, I'm eighteen now. I'm an adult. My family situation might be a little complicated, but I can handle it. I don't want my dad to worry about me. Also, this whole incident has blown up so much, it wouldn't be right for me to stay at your home anymore. I'm truly grateful for your kindness, though."
