When Lin Lan got home, she saw Lin Yuezhen in the backyard gathering sun-wilted baby bok choy stalks. "Sis, are you making pungent greens?"
Lin Yuezhen nodded and pointed to the vegetable patch in the backyard. Only then did Lin Lan notice that all the small-leaf bok choy in the patch had bolted.
"I'll pick the stalks to make pungent greens, and I'll pull up the old leaves to make pickled vegetables."
The two of them carried the basket of bok choy stalks into the kitchen. They chopped them on the cutting board into half-centimeter pieces, placed them in a bamboo sieve, and then brought them to the stove and poured them into the wok for stir-frying.
As soon as they were lightly cooked, they scooped them out. While still hot, they packed a portion tightly into a small jar and covered it with a cloth-wrapped lid. They put the rest in a large bowl and sealed it by inverting a smaller bowl over the top.
