"Ma-Master…"
Little Sui Yu's expression was lost, his eyes vacant as they stared into nothingness.
He tried so hard to make something of himself, but his family couldn't afford it. He couldn't bring himself to ask his parents to do more for him, because he knew how difficult it already was for them just to raise him. He had no right to ask for anything else.
But he was just so, so sad, and he didn't even know why.
He slowly squatted down, bringing his eyes level with the little fox on the bed. He looked at her earnestly and choked out:
"Ma… Master… tell me, am I… am I really… useless?"
His words came out haltingly.
'I'm so ungrateful,' he thought. 'I already have a loving mother and father, a warm stove in the winter, enough food to eat, and clothes to wear. And yet, I still want to read and write.'
'What a greedy little monster I am.'
Shen Huoshui was taken aback, her gaze on him turning peculiar.
"…You like to study?"
