"Okay, thank you," Mika said politely, taking the cart from the attendant. "I'll take it from here."
A flicker of disappointment crossed the attendant's eyes, but he still forced a smile and replied, "Yes, ma'am."
Mika pushed the cart inside and closed the door. Then, she began setting out all the dishes on the table.
When Tristan still hadn't come out, she stood up to call him for dinner.
Just as she was about to knock, she heard Tristan talking. She froze. His tone was so gentle it made her heart clench painfully.
The only woman who could make Tristan speak with such gentleness was Maggie Monroe. No one else.
'So, in the short time I was gone to get the door, he called *her*?'
The realization was a blow her heart couldn't take, and a sharp pain shot through her. She forced herself back to the sofa. The feast laid out before her did nothing to stir her appetite. She felt like a clown, foolishly waiting for a man who didn't have her on his mind in the slightest.
