It felt as though telling her the truth or a lie would be equally hurtful.
Thankfully, just as the atmosphere grew tense, the phone in Howard Rhodes's pocket rang. He pulled it out and answered, jogging toward the hospital entrance as he spoke.
Louise Jordan glanced at Rory, who was frowning in thought, and sighed softly. "We're keeping it from you, Rory, only because you're a child and shouldn't see anything too gruesome. But please, don't worry. As long as your dad is here, everything will be okay."
"Of course! My dad's the best. No matter what happens, he'll take care of it. I believe in him," Shirley Lockwood said, her expression instantly brightening into a proud smile.
