The two of them hadn't expected to find Angela and her mother so easily, but they had no idea just how difficult getting the money back would be.
When they reached the door to Angela and her mother's room, Joan rang the doorbell. Rosalind Paxton's voice immediately came from inside. "Okay, okay! Come, come!"
But the moment she opened the door, her smile froze. "Joan?"
"Mom," Joan said warmly.
Rosalind Paxton, however, was not nearly as warm. She looked Finn Norris up and down, a bad feeling rising in her heart.
She recognized the man; he was one of Joan's colleagues from the traffic police.
She quickly pulled Joan inside and drew her aside. "Joan, what's going on? Why are you here with him?"
"Mom, you took ten million from Miles Xavier, didn't you? You sold me to him? What gives you the right to do that? It's illegal!" The memory of how she'd been wronged at the Xavier family home these past few days made Joan's words sharp as she confronted her mother.
