"If you don't want me to stay, I'll leave right now." Howard had a gentle smile on his face; he knew Nate wouldn't want him to go.
Sure enough, her hand shot out to grab him, her eyes glistening. "Of course I want you to stay! I couldn't ask for more. Having my husband here to dote on me... I'm so happy I could fly."
As she spoke, she stood up, balanced on one leg, and struck a pose as if about to take flight.
But the aftereffects of her hangover made her unsteady. She nearly fell, but thankfully, Howard was there to catch her. She sheepishly rubbed her head. "Let's eat?"
Howard sat beside her, filled a bowl for himself, and placed some side dishes into her bowl.
The feeling of eating breakfast together was pure bliss. A happy smile never left Nate Jennings's lips.
The atmosphere was perfectly harmonious, but fate, it seemed, had other plans.
