Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: See You in Court

Upon hearing this, Logan Linden's face flushed with a mixture of anger and embarrassment.

He had planned on asking her for a breakup fee, but he never imagined she'd demand money from him first. And 195,000, at that! How could he possibly come up with that kind of money?

He'd spent all his money supporting Melanie Sinclair. 'This stupid woman is living in a fantasy world,' he thought.

Certain he wasn't going to pay her back, Logan deliberately twisted the facts. "The little bit you earn from part-time jobs? Enough to buy things worth tens of thousands? You've got to be kidding me!"

"I have the transfer records in my online banking and the digital receipts for everything I bought you. If you want, I can print them out for you right now."

There was no way Logan would admit it. His expression soured instantly. "So what if you have proof? Where did that money come from? Do you dare tell me the truth?"

'Hah… And this damned scumbag has the nerve to ask where *I* got my money?'

Claire Sinclair found it so absurd it was almost funny. She retorted righteously, "What is there that I wouldn't dare say? My first big payout after graduation was 30,000 from developing a mobile app part-time. I used it to buy you that new model you were obsessed with.

"Those shoes that cost 20,000 were your birthday present, bought with money I saved for half a year working all kinds of part-time jobs. And the watch you're wearing? That was purchased with the reward money I received for reporting two S-rank murderers. The Special Affairs Bureau has it on file. All of this is verifiable, so you don't have a choice but to believe me."

Logan was utterly stunned.

He probably never imagined that the quiet, timid girl who barely spoke to anyone had secretly done so much for him.

He especially found it hard to believe she'd have the guts to report murderers.

Seeing that the situation was beyond his control, Logan dropped the pretense. His face hardened as he said:

"Fine. Let's assume your money is clean. For the two years we dated, you used me like a workhorse, but I did everything without complaint. I poured my heart and soul—over two years of my youth—into you. Let's just say my two years of youth cancel out the pathetic amount of money you spent on me. I'll only charge you 1 million."

'One million?'

'Go eat shit!'

If Claire had a cup of coffee in front of her, she would have splashed it in his face without a second thought. Unfortunately, her hands were empty.

"I don't know where you get the nerve to ask me for one million. Forget about whether I have it or not—even if I did, you wouldn't get a single penny. And another thing: you *will* pay me back that 195,000. If you don't, I'll see you in court!"

The girl's tone was resolute, filled with a do-or-die determination.

She had never shown him this forceful side of her before.

For a split second, Logan was taken aback by her powerful aura, but the feeling was fleeting.

In his opinion, this stupid girl wasn't just brainless; she was physically flawed and fragile. A hollow threat from her meant absolutely nothing to him.

Remembering she was just a pushover, Logan's bravado returned. He sneered, "Claire Sinclair, we'll just have to wait and see. Let's see who caves first—you giving me one million, or me giving you back that 195,000. Heh..."

With that arrogant declaration, Logan packed up his laptop and got up to leave.

Seeing him leave, the crowd of onlookers who had been enjoying the show seized their chance to voice their opinions:

"Kept men these days are so shameless. He lives off a woman's money, and when they break up, he has the audacity to demand a one-million breakup fee."

"What a despicable man. I hope he gets hit by a car the second he steps outside."

"He looks so presentable on the outside. You'd never think he was such a scumbag."

"Trash. He's a disgrace to all men..."

Feeling the crushing weight of public scorn, Logan couldn't help but speed up.
