After the storm passed, Konoha was reborn in blood and fire.
The village moved with grim efficiency. Streets were repaired, seals reinforced, Anbu rosters restructured, Root erased from existence as if it had never been. At the same time, preparations for Tsunade's succession ceremony proceeded without pause. Konoha could not afford to hesitate—not now, not after everything that had been exposed.
Before the ceremony, Minato Namikaze was summoned to the Daimyō's Mansion in the Land of Fire.
The Lord Daimyō listened in silence as Minato recounted the entire sequence of events, from the Sacrificial Shop to the execution of the Third Hokage. His expression remained controlled, but the fingers resting on the armrest tightened slightly.
When Minato finished, the Daimyō exhaled slowly.
"Hiruzen Sarutobi's actions were… disappointing," he said at last. "However—"
His eyes sharpened.
"What unsettles me more is this: today you gathered forces and compelled the Hokage to his death. Tomorrow, if the Daimyō offends your interests, will you do the same to the sovereign?"
The unspoken threat lingered heavily in the hall.
Several ministers subtly shifted their stance, already preparing to apply pressure.
Minato did not argue.
Instead, he stepped forward and produced a celadon pill bottle.
"Hiruzen Sarutobi offended the Sacrificial Shop," Minato said calmly, offering it with both hands. "The situation was urgent. We had no time to submit reports or await approval. This is why we acted first and explained later."
The Daimyō's gaze locked onto the pill.
He no longer cared to hear justification.
When the stopper was removed and the pill swallowed, the transformation unfolded before everyone's eyes.
His spine straightened. His skin tightened. Wrinkles faded like melting snow. Hair once streaked with white turned jet-black, strand by strand, until no trace of age remained.
The hall fell into stunned silence.
The Lord Daimyō rose slowly, staring at his reflection in polished bronze, his breathing growing heavier—not with fear, but with exhilaration.
"Hiruzen Sarutobi was senile," he declared flatly, as if reciting a long-established fact. "His recklessness led to his own end. Konoha handled the matter appropriately."
He turned back toward Minato, smiling faintly.
"I will personally attend Tsunade's succession ceremony. Financial support to Konoha will continue unchanged."
"Konoha thanks the Lord Daimyō," Minato replied, bowing deeply.
After the delegation departed, the Daimyō paced restlessly through the hall, his steps sharp, erratic.
Sacrificial coins required treasures. Treasures required authority.
"Kazuma," he suddenly barked.
The captain of the Twelve Guardian Ninja appeared instantly, kneeling.
"Mobilize forces throughout the Land of Fire," the Daimyō ordered. "Any rare treasures, sealed relics, or artifacts that can be exchanged—confiscate them. Those who resist will be treated as traitors."
Kazuma hesitated. "Other nobles will resist. And with Root abolished, covert enforcement will be difficult. The risk of exposure—"
"Courtesy before force," the Daimyō interrupted coldly. "Those who refuse courtesy will receive force."
After a pause, he added, eyes gleaming with obsession, "If direct seizure proves troublesome, we will instead recruit. Spirit Bones. Secret techniques. Those willing to swear loyalty will be rewarded."
Kazuma bowed. "As you command."
The Hokage succession ceremony concluded without incident.
That same night, without informing the Daimyō, Konoha quietly convened a sealed meeting.
Representatives from the other four Great Ninja Villages arrived one after another.
Hidden Cloud: the Third Raikage, Ay, sat firm as a mountain, with Yagyito and Darui behind him.
Hidden Mist: Elder Advisor Gengetsu leaned on his staff, youthful and sharp-eyed, Yagura and Kisame flanking him.
Hidden Sand: the Third Kazekage, Rasa, sat solemnly, with Chiyo and Pakura nearby.
Iwagakure: Ōnoki floated slightly above his seat, Kitsuchi and Akatsuchi at his sides.
This was not merely a meeting.
It was the future of the Ninja World.
Tsunade exchanged a glance with Jiraiya and Minato before speaking.
"Before we begin, let me state this clearly. The Sacrificial Shop has been confirmed to be located in the Land of Whirlpools. Kushina has agreed to transfer territorial authority. This matter is settled."
She continued evenly, "Except for Hidden Mist, all Villages must pass through the Land of Fire to reach it. Konoha will allow free passage—but under shared rules."
Ōnoki raised an eyebrow. "Speak."
"First," Tsunade said, "all Ninja dispatched to the Land of Whirlpools must be registered internally by their Villages. Registered personnel may move freely in non-military zones. Unregistered Ninja must report upon entry—or be treated as illegal infiltrators."
"Violators will be jointly pursued by all Five Villages."
No objections were raised.
"Second," she continued, "missions involving military installations or classified intelligence must be handled solely by the affected Village. Interference will not be tolerated."
Again, unanimous agreement.
"Third," Tsunade said, her gaze steady, "the Five Villages will share intelligence related to the Sacrificial Shop. To show sincerity, Konoha will share all information obtained through Orochimaru."
Ōnoki narrowed his eyes, wary—but after a moment, nodded.
One by one, the others agreed.
The Five-Village Alliance, in all but name, took shape.
After the intelligence briefing, silence fell.
"So the martial tournament is a selection process," Gengetsu mused. "Boss Li is scouting."
"Yes," Tsunade confirmed. "Outstanding talents may be recruited directly. Others may receive pills to enhance their potential."
"And the ninety-day buffer?" Ōnoki pressed.
"A test," Tsunade said. "Of learning speed, adaptability, and discipline."
Gengetsu nodded, then proposed, "Each Village should submit a list of protected young talents. No assassinations."
Ōnoki scoffed, but did not object.
One by one, the Villages agreed.
Then Gengetsu dropped the final proposal.
"The Five Villages should jointly resist Daimyō interference."
The room erupted.
Gengetsu raised his staff slightly. "I do not propose rebellion. I propose communication. When the Daimyōs push us toward war, we must coordinate."
"Longevity Pills change everything," Rasa added coldly. "Once nobles can buy strength and life, they will no longer rely on us."
Ay frowned but nodded slowly. "Kumogakure will communicate. No more."
"Konoha agrees," Tsunade said without hesitation.
After a tense pause, Ōnoki finally nodded as well.
"Good," Gengetsu said softly. "Then it is settled."
The Five Villages stood united—not by trust, but by necessity.
The Ninja World had entered a new era.
And this time, the rules would not be written by Daimyō alone.
