Chapter 22: Shadow Magic and the Sentinel's End
With a thunderous roar, Sir Godric raised his luminous claymore and charged at Volt. A brilliant white radiance erupted from the blade, blinding enough to illuminate the darkest corner of the hall, yet Volt didn't even blink.
"System, activate 'Shadow Sovereignty: Domain of Silence'," Volt commanded calmly.
In a heartbeat, shadows bled from the obsidian mirrors, swallowing the hall in total darkness. Sir Godric's holy light was instantly snuffed out as if it were being absorbed by an infinite void. The sentinel froze in shock, "What sorcery is this? Holy light cannot be extinguished!"
Volt blurred through the darkness, appearing directly in front of him. He placed a single finger against Sir Godric's breastplate. "Your light is a fragile illusion gifted by false gods. I will show you a reality you cannot withstand."
A pulse of dark violet energy surged from Volt's finger into the guard's body. Sir Godric felt the strength drain from his limbs, his very soul momentarily detached from his physical form. Without a single drop of blood being spilled, the sentinel collapsed into a deep, forced slumber.
Aki scurried forward, snatching the glowing claymore before it hit the floor. "Well done, My Lord! That was easier than picking a pocket. Now this beauty belongs to me!"
Sai watched the lingering shadows with a grim expression. "My Lord, your new power is absolute, but I fear the System is hiding something from us. Is this strength truly yours, or a leash they've placed on you?"
Volt offered no answer. He turned toward the final set of doors leading to the throne room. He knew that behind those doors waited someone who was not only human but someone tied intimately to the secrets of his past life.
