Chapter 5 - [5] Beginner's Luck Hits the Jackpot!

Erwin stared at his status panel, feeling more like he was trapped in a video game than living in the wizarding world. But what was this? His talent in the Dark Arts rated a nine—nearly maxed out? He prided himself on being a decent sort. Sure, no truly good kid shot a rival gang leader dead at seven years old to defend his turf, even if the recoil left his arm bruised for weeks. Deep down, though, he was kind-hearted. Or so he told himself.

This system felt unreliable, though. And what was Ancient Magic? He queried it, but the system just told him to figure it out himself. What a slacker, Erwin thought with a mental scoff. Leave everything to me.

He dismissed the panel, and the interface shifted to the lottery screen. Rays of light burst forth, colorful cards swirling into the air before stacking into three neat piles before him. The effects were flashy, almost over-the-top. But four words kept echoing in his mind: Lady Luck, activate!

Erwin shook his head to clear it. Damn, this is too much like those gacha games. He focused on the options.

[Basic Lottery]

Cost: 100 reputation points per draw, 10% off for ten in a row!

Guaranteed blue after 10 pulls, purple after 100!

[Advanced Lottery]

Cost: 1,000 reputation points per draw, 10% off for ten in a row!

Guaranteed purple every 10 pulls, gold every 100!

[Special Lottery] Requires unlocking conditions!

The basic one screamed "newbie bait" for broke players like him. But the special category intrigued him. "System, what's the deal with the special lottery? Explain."

[Special lotteries need unique activation methods! Great value ahead. Currently available: Beginner Card Pool. Activate now?]

Erwin's eyes lit up. An unadvertised bonus? "Yes! Open it right now."

[Special lottery activated as Beginner Pool! Limit: 10 free draws!]

He grinned. This was straight out of a novel—the protagonist's starter pack, the spark that ignited their legend. The cards shimmered and rearranged, floating before him. Erwin tapped one, and shuffling sounds filled the air. Cards lifted one by one: white, green, blue. Seven in a row, then a purple flash.

His heart raced. Purple already? The final cards trembled, two golden streaks slicing through. A double jackpot!

Erwin nearly jumped. Golden legends—twice! The tale of snagging the Philosopher's Stone on the first pull was repeating here, in magic. He was the chosen one.

[Lottery complete! Rewards acquired!]

White: 3 Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans!

Green: One toy doll from Grindelwald's childhood! 2 Magic Boosting Potions (cheap, low-quality)!

Blue: Talent Points x2!

Erwin's face fell. Bertie Bott's? Those prank beans? What kind of time-traveler system included junk food? And Grindelwald's doll? Was it cursed? Hexed? Why pair that with potions?

He grumbled inwardly but perked up at the potions. Ancient wizards owed their might to these, legends said—boosting magic reserves like nothing else. But on closer inspection...

"Shoddy version?" His expression darkened. Drinkable? Or deadly? This pool felt rigged.

Still, the talent points were blue rarity. In pay-to-win games, they weren't simple. Maybe for upgrades?

[Host is sharp—the system approves. Talent cap is ten points. Basic points raise it that far. For more, synthesize advanced points: 100 basic per advanced!]

Erwin's lips twitched. Classic gacha nonsense. "Fine, give me a benchmark. What's the max for talent?"

[Using host's top stat: Dark Arts. Grindelwald hit fourteen—legendary tier!]

He deflated. A genius? Hardly. He was a scrub. Shrugging it off—too broke to care—he moved on.

Purple: Ever-Changing Outfit! (Indestructible; alters appearance and color at will. Grants 30% resistance to all spells!)

Now this was gold. Even Dumbledore would feel the sting at thirty percent less power. Erwin's eyes gleamed. If purple was this good, gold had to be epic.

Golden: Unknown Egg

Contains a mysterious magical creature! Hatch to claim as pet. Method: Feed blood of magical creatures. Progress: 0/100.

He stroked his chin. A gamble, but a golden tier meant something extraordinary inside.

Golden: Special Passive—Talent Type

Magic Reserves: Store excess magical energy beyond daily limits. Draw on it to recharge as needed!

Erwin beamed. Perpetual power? If he stocked up enough, he'd be unstoppable. He claimed it immediately, the warmth of new potential flooding his veins.

The lottery's glow faded, leaving him buzzing. Trash draws aside, this beginner's luck had delivered big. With tools like these, the wizarding world wouldn't know what hit it. Erwin closed the interface, a sly grin spreading. Time to test his edges.
