Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The First Move

I smiled as my husband left the room that morning, briefcase in hand, oblivious to what I had discovered the night before.

The company wasn't as invincible as they believed. A few small changes, a few carefully placed whispers… and everything could bend to my favor.

I opened my laptop again, fingers gliding across the keys with purpose.

Contracts to review.

Hidden accounts to uncover.

Silent allies to find.

Each discovery was a dagger. And I planned to place every one where it would hurt them the most.

Later that day, I received a call.

"Hello?" I said softly.

A familiar voice, smooth but cautious.

"You don't know me," it said. "But I know you. And I can help."

My pulse quickened, but my face remained calm.

"Go on," I said.

"You've been betrayed before… but you're smarter this time. I can make sure the right pieces move in your favor."

I leaned back, a slow smile spreading across my lips.

"So," I said, my tone as soft as silk, "what do you want in return?"

Silence. Then a whisper:

"Nothing. Just don't fail."

I hung up.

That evening, my twin sister arrived unannounced, her smile too bright, too forced.

"Just thought I'd check in," she said. Her eyes darted toward the office door, probably sensing my presence there.

I looked at her calmly. "Of course. You're always welcome."

She lingered for a moment, too curious, too careful, too much like the predator she really was.

Then she left, none the wiser.

I exhaled.

The first move had been made.

And they didn't even know the game had begun.
