Chapter 228 - Chapter 224: The End of The Imp

Tyrion followed Viserys's finger, his gaze finally resting on a giant dragon named Meraxes.

Currently, it was lying on the ground, its golden eyes watching him curiously. Its scales were copper-yellow, shimmering with a very ancient luster under the moonlight, looking quite beautiful.

"Viserys, can you tell me one thing?" Tyrion looked at the dragon before him and suddenly asked.

"Speak." Viserys was in a good mood, so he didn't mind giving this character, who had so much focus in the original story, a chance to speak.

"Everything after my death—have you already arranged it all?" Tyrion forced himself to stare straight at Viserys.

"You are very clever. In fact, from the moment you walked out of King's Landing, Varys's people began spreading news in the city. By tomorrow morning, all of King's Landing will know that their Lord Hand and House Lannister have abandoned them and fled in secret."

Tyrion froze for a moment, then laughed. The laughter contained admiration, helplessness, and a hint of bitterness. He said, "Good, very good. I thought I was clever, but in the end, you've been playing me for a fool from start to finish."

Tyrion stood where he was, the moonlight stretching his shadow long, making him look like a normal person. Looking at Viserys's silhouette, he suddenly felt a strange sense of relief.

"You know, Viserys?" he continued. "Sometimes, I really envy you. You have dragons, an army, and everything you want. You don't have to struggle for survival in a family that will never accept you like I do, using what little cleverness I have to scheme against everyone and please everyone just to stay alive."

He paused, his voice softening. "But you were wrong about one thing. I didn't come to see you tonight just to stall for time. I truly wanted to see what the man even Varys couldn't see through really looked like. I wanted to see what a Targaryen who truly possesses dragons looked like; I've always been curious."

Viserys looked at the relaxed Tyrion, remained silent for a while, and then said, "Now you've seen."

"Yes, I've seen." Tyrion smiled and nodded. "I've satisfied my curiosity, though the price is rather high."

Viserys looked at him, thought for a moment, and said, "For the sake of the Targaryen blood flowing in you, I'll give you one more chance."

"What chance?" Tyrion suddenly showed a look of excitement.

"Say your final words." Viserys's tone was calm, as if speaking of something perfectly ordinary. "Then, I will give you a death worthy of your Targaryen blood."

Hearing this, Tyrion fell silent again. After a while, he finally spoke, his voice very calm. "How much of what you just said is true? About my parentage, about my blood—is it true, or is it a lie you fabricated to make my death more painful?" Rose

Viserys turned around to look at the dwarf standing nearby. The moonlight shone on Tyrion's face; there was no fear or anger on that ugly face now, only a near-desperate calm.

"It's true," Viserys said. "Your blood is real, but that changes nothing now."

Hearing Viserys's answer, Tyrion closed his eyes and suddenly asked, "Then if I had grown up with you in Valyria from a young age, would it have been possible for me to ride a dragon too?"

Viserys looked at him, silent for a while, then said, "Perhaps, but you no longer have that chance."

Tyrion smiled, a smile filled with regret and a strange sense of satisfaction.

He began to speak his mind. "Yes, no more chances. Fate is a funny thing. I've dreamed of having a dragon since I was a child, and now that I finally see one, it's here to kill me."

He paused, looked up at Viserys, and said, "Regardless, thank you for telling me the truth. Though it came a bit late, at least I'll die knowing."

Viserys didn't speak, just watched him.

"Can I choose one myself?" Tyrion suddenly asked. "Since I'm going to die, I should at least have some choice in which dragon's fire I die under, just for the sake of me being a dwarf."

Viserys was taken aback. He hadn't expected Tyrion to seem somewhat open-minded at this moment, but he still nodded and asked, "Which one do you want to choose?"

Tyrion's gaze swept over the dragons, finally stopping on Meraxes. The copper-yellow dragon was still watching him curiously, its golden-yellow eyes exceptionally bright in the darkness.

"That one," Tyrion pointed at Meraxes. "It looks the friendliest; it probably won't make me suffer too much."

Viserys beckoned to Meraxes. The dragon obediently walked over, its massive head leaning close to Viserys, nuzzling his hand.

Seeing this, a flash of envy crossed Tyrion's eyes. "It's so good to be able to be this close to a dragon."

Viserys didn't respond, only patted Meraxes's neck, then stepped back a few paces and said to Tyrion, "Do you have anything else to say?"

Tyrion thought for a moment and said, "When you take King's Landing, remember to tell Sansa Stark, I promised to send her home. Though I didn't manage it, I tried my best."

Viserys nodded and said with a smile, "Actually, regarding the safety of Sansa Stark, I already promised someone else before you. Her sister, Arya Stark. Do you know of her?"

Tyrion was slightly stunned, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes, but then he smiled with relief, as if he understood something.

"I see. No wonder we couldn't find her in King's Landing; it seems Varys had already sent her to Valyria."

He paused and continued, "No wonder I couldn't feel any fear from Sansa about you taking King's Landing; it seems Varys had already informed her. It turns out our actions have always looked like a clown's performance in your eyes."

He knew that saying these things now was meaningless.

He took a deep breath, took one last look at Meraxes's curious golden eyes, then turned back to Viserys. He straightened his somewhat hunched back and spread his arms, even though his deformed legs were still trembling slightly.

But his voice was exceptionally clear as he said, "Then come, let me witness true Dragonfire."

Meraxes looked at Viserys, and after receiving an affirmative look, it opened its mouth. A spark began to glow deep in its throat, growing brighter and hotter, until it finally turned into a searing blast of Dragonfire, gushing forth.
