The field behind the house was bigger than it looked from the second-floor window.
Noel had underestimated it but now that he could see it, standing at the edge of it in the early morning light. It stretched wide in front of the assassin building, a proper training ground with clear sections marked by low wooden posts and what appeared to be permanent equipment arrangements along the far wall. The ground was packed earth, worn smooth by use.
People were already here.
They were not there to watch him specifically, they were all moving, setting things up, carrying equipment from the building in pairs.
He found Elijah near the centre, working with an assistant over a table of documents.
"How often does this test happen?" Noel said.
Elijah looked up and adjusted his glasses.
"The last one was six years ago," he said.
Noel looked around at the activity.
"Who was it?" he said.
Elijah pointed.
