Chapter 1 - CHAPTER - 1 A DARK RAINY NIGHT

The Night is Dark,

Time is 11:00 clock,

It is cloaking the city in its velvet shadow. The clock struck eleven, and the streets glimmered under the scattered glow of streetlights. In a yellow cab weaving through the sparse traffic, a young woman sat silently, her eyes fixed on the cold glow of her phone screen. Yet, despite the cheerful images illuminating her face, her heart throbbed with unbearable pain. Silent tears traced down her cheeks, unseen yet heavy with sorrow.

She spoke softly, her voice barely above a whisper, to the driver.

"Uncle… please, drive a little faster. I need to reach the airport urgently."

The cab driver, catching her anxious glance in the rearview mirror, nodded with quiet understanding. "Yes, ma'am."

She clutched her phone tightly to her chest, scrolling through pictures from her best friend Kayla's wedding. The smiles in the photographs seemed to mock her silent grief. She lingered on a single image, one that made her heart twist in ways words could never capture.

It was a photograph of a man.

Dressed impeccably in a black suit, he radiated an aura of confidence and sophistication, the kind only billionaires seemed to carry effortlessly. He was congratulating Oliver, hugging him warmly, his presence undeniable and commanding even in a fleeting photograph. The girl's chest tightened, and the tears she had tried to suppress fell freely.

"Why… why does everything in my life hurt like this?" she whispered to herself, pressing the phone against her chest as if it could somehow absorb the pain. Her trembling hands wiped away her tears, but her heart refused to find solace.

The cab moved steadily along the highway, the cool night air brushing her face as she leaned against the window, holding that photograph close. She whispered to the emptiness around her, words meant only for her own ears:

"Why does it always have to be this way?

Why couldn't I confess my love to him all those years in college?

I loved him deeply, purely… every day and every moment and minute of my life. Yet he never noticed me.

He never saw me in his world. Not as a friend, not as something more… not even as a stranger

I was just… there, silent and invisible."

The driver who see the girl is crying and asks

Ma'am I know I should not ask you like this.

But you look like my daughter who is having same age of yours.

I'm watching you are crying from a very long time.

Please take this water bottle and drink some water Ma'am.

It will ease your tension.

The girl politely refuses,

No. I'm okay.

The Cab Driver takes it back and see the girl in mirror whose face is filled with so much of pain.

"If you want. You can speak to me until airport reaches Ma'am"

The girl wipes her tears, without showing her pain and tears to driver and says

"Thank You"

But I'm okay. Please Don't worry about me, And really

"Thank you for your concern."

Her sobs continued, echoing the years of unspoken feelings that had accumulated into a storm of heartbreak.

"I wanted to change my fate, but I couldn't… Not until now.

I don't want anything in my life and just wants him to see me… to hear me. Even if he rejects me, I will be happy knowing I finally tried. I can't hide my love for him any longer."

The girl who is sitting in the cab who starts ti think snad her thoughts were interrupted by movement when she looked in the side mirror.

The girl looks at a familiar face and say the name Easton.

A car was approaching rapidly, its headlights slicing through the darkness. Her heart skipped a beat as recognition struck her.

"Easton…" she breathed softly, her voice trembling.

Instinctively, she leaned forward. "Uncle… please, drive faster."

The cab surged forward, but the figure in the approaching car was already screaming her name, his voice raw with fury.

"HEY, YOU BITCH!

HOW DARE YOU REJECT ME ! AND TO PLAY WITH MY FEELINGS.

WAIT! TODAY, I WILL END YOU! YOU CAN'T ESCAPE ME! YOU SLUT! YOU UGLY BITCH!"

The girl body froze, a shiver of fear running through her.

The cab driver, sensing the immediate danger, glanced nervously at her. "Ma'am… what's happening?"

In a voice barely audible, Leah whispered, "Uncle… I can't explain anything right now,

"PLEASE DRIVE FASTER"

Some people are chasing me… they want to kill me. Please, drive faster."

The driver's expression hardened. "Ma'am, this is the highway. There are too many cars, and speeding is risky. If i drive speed that could lead to an accident. But i will try my best ma'am.

But Please try to call police and inform them every thing here.

The girl dials police and informs every thing to them.

The girl cuts the call.

The girl nodded, trembling, and dialed the emergency number. The tense hum of the night was pierced by sirens in the distance.

The girl listens to Easton bad mouthing at her.

Easton and his friends bad comments at Leah.

Easton shouting

"HEY, YOU BITCH, Stop the Cab"

"YOU CANNOT ESCAPE FROM ME"

Meanwhile, her phone vibrated with a call from Kayla. The girl answered, her voice strained with fear and urgency.

"Babe! Where are you? I need to see you before i go to honeymoon with my husband Oliver. I bought a bracelet for you… I did forgot to give you in the wedding. I bought similar braceletsfor you and me. I want to give it you and i bought pink and purple bracelet of same design.

Pink is for you and Purple is for me. Where are you?"

The girl tried to speak, but tears choked her voice. "I'm in a cab and it is on highway… Easton is after me, Kayla… I don't know what to do."

Through the phone, Kayla's voice was both panicked and steady. "Don't worry, Babe. I'm on my way with Oliver. Stay calm. You're not alone. Help is coming. Just… stay safe."

"Share the GPS Babe"

I'm coming and we are on our way.

The girl shares GPS to Kayla.

The girl glanced through the cab window and saw Easton's car closing in, his friends with him, shouting threats, their intentions clear. Her heart raced, her chest tight with fear. She held her phone to her ear, whispering prayers into the night as the cool air stung her tear-soaked face.

Easton's rage was unstoppable. His hand gripped a revolver, and he attempted to ram the cab off the road. The cab jolted violently under the impact, sending the girl against the seat, her breaths coming in ragged gasps. She pressed herself to the photograph of the man she had loved silently for years, seeking strength from the only constant in her life.

The driver fought to maintain control, his knuckles white on the wheel, but the cab shook under every aggressive maneuver Easton made. Cars nearby honked and swerved, some stopping to witness the terrifying chase, others frozen in fear.

"Please… please…" The girl whispered to herself, her soul trembling. "Why has my heart been forced into this nightmare? Why now?"

The police sirens drew closer, weaving through the traffic. Easton's car skidded, his anger momentarily blinding him. In the chaos, Leah managed to glance toward the side mirror and saw the unmistakable arrival of her friends—Kayla and Oliver, racing to her aid. Relief and fear collided violently in her chest.

Easton's fury reached its peak as he tried one final, reckless move. The cab lurched, throwing the girl against the seat again, her body trembling violently. Her vision blurred, and darkness began to creep in from the edges of her consciousness. Summoning the last reserves of her strength, she whispered a single name, a plea that escaped her lips even as her body threatened to betray her:

"Leo…"

Her voice faltered, then disappeared as unconsciousness claimed her.

Kayla's voice rang out sharply, "LEAH! LEAH! GET UP!"

The driver listens to the girl name is actually LEAH.

Who gets shocked and also felt bad to see Leah in a unconscious state

Leah's soul felt detached from her body, watching helplessly as chaos unfolded around her. Her pulse, weak but present, was checked by a doctor who had arrived on the scene. "She's alive," he confirmed, urgency in his tone. "We need to get her to the hospital immediately."

Paramedics lifted her carefully, and in that moment, Leah's mind began to stir, the shock of near-death mingling with the pain and fear of the night. She opened her eyes slowly, her gaze finding Kayla's anxious one, and a flood of gratitude and emotion overwhelmed her.

"Why… if I am alive… why did my soul leave my body for a moment?" Leah whispered to herself, the question hanging in the air as the night outside remained indifferent, the city lights flickering like distant stars witnessing her ordeal.

The car doors closed, the sirens faded into the night, and Leah's journey—once a quiet ride through the city—had transformed into a harrowing ordeal that would forever mark her heart. But amid the chaos and fear, one truth remained undeniable: her heart's desires, her unspoken love, and the life she fought to protect were far from over.
