The cool breeze blew swiftly through the open window, waking Anastasia, and bringing her from the land of her dreams, a place where she could see, feel and identify the beauty of life and nature.
"Mum." Anastasia called.
"Mum is here, love." Annabel responded with a smile.
Thirteen years turned out like a millennium; the cry, the pain, the agony; and the doctor's words.
It kept ringing in her head. And as the days flew by fast, she wondered if her daughter would ever get to see again.
Holding Annabel's soft hands, Anna got out of bed.
"Your college days will soon be over."
"Hmmn." Anna nodded.
"Anna, do you…
"I am glad to interrupt your conversation with this good news…
The room went silent, all waiting to see or hear each other's reaction and thoughts.
"The doctor just informed that the surgeon is available today and Anna should be at the hospital as soon as possible."
The smile was evident- she was happy.
"I will get my eyesight back?" Anna asked nervously.
"Yes, but we need to leave soon for that to be possible, Anna." Annabel mentioned; excitedly.
MAYWORD HOSPITAL.
The hospital boomed with quiet activity- at first, and then different sound came rushing in- cries, laughter, chattering, murmuring.
Everyone had a business or two to take care of.
It was either with the doctor or with the patient's relative, everyone was occupied.
Doctor Glyn's Office.
"All we need to do is get her to the theatre, and we can trust God with the rest."
"And the surgeon, is he competent?"
"Yes, I assure you." Doctor Glyn assured.
Anastasia felt her mother's fear and doubts- she was worried.
"Doctor, my daughter has ever had to undergo her surgery, please all that matters to me, is my daughter's life. Please, Doctor." Annabel begged.
How could she not be afraid; God only blessed her with a child and she was Anastasia.
AFTER A SUCCESSFUL OPERATION
Her eyes opened slowly- without thinking, without doubts.
The first figure she saw was of a woman, beautiful and breathtaking, her smile was indulging.
"Anna, you are awake!"
"Hmmn." Anna nodded.
From the woman's voice, Anna knew who it was. She also smiled happily.
She finally had the chance to admire her mother's ravishing beauty.
Annabel, swinging her hand across Anna's face, asked.
"Can you see me?"
"Yes." Anastasia responded.
Holding up three fingers, Annabel asked again.
"How many fingers are these?"
"Three."
"Oh, Anastasia, you can finally see me." Annabel rejoiced, hugging Anna tightly.
"Huh, mum, where is dad?"
Anna asked, her eyes moving in different directions in search of her dad.
"He had some urgent matters to attend to, I hope you can understand." Annabel explained, her tone laced with disappointment.
"It's okay."
Western's Best Mount College.
Three girls ran towards her excitedly.
They were her friends- Luvleen, Angel, Ruby.
"We are so glad to have the heiress of the Wood's family in our midst with her eyes."
That would have felt like an insult if no one understood Luvleen, she had always been like that; always trying to crack a simple joke out of everything.
"Yes, Luvleen." Anna replied with a hysterical smile.
"How was the summer break?" Ruby asked.
"It was great; I travelled to England, Paris and…
"Luvleen, do you mind? I was asking Anna!"
"What's there to talk about Ruby, what can a blin…
"It's of no use asking you, that's the excuse you always give. I hope this excuse of yours will change onwards." Angel said, rolling her eyes.
Anna nodded and smiled.
Soon the bell rang- recess was over.
