Chapter 13 – Charmander

"rank 10?! You really broke through?" Wang Sheng's jaw dropped. Even though Tang San had prepared them, hearing Lin Mo confirm it still sent a shock through him.

How long had it even been? From his Spirit Awakening until now, Lin Mo had only cultivated for a little over half a year.

Yet he'd already climbed from Innate Level Six Soul Power all the way to rank 10.

That pace—while still short of the freakish speed of Tang San and Xiao Wu with their Innate Full Spirit Power—had unquestionably outstripped theirs in terms of raw cultivation speed.

Every other Work-Study Student wore the same stunned, envious expression.

It was the Realm they all dreamed of.

rank 10: once you obtained your first spirit ring, you were a true Spirit Master.

"All right, quit gawking." Xiao Wu waved a dismissive hand, apparently unsurprised by the Breakthrough; her attention was elsewhere.

"Lin Mo, now you can finally show us what hatched out of that egg. I can't wait any longer!"

"Yeah, yeah—let's see it!" Wang Sheng snapped out of his daze and chimed in.

Under the curious, expectant stares, Lin Mo drew a deep breath and focused.

A flash of red light flickered in front of him.

The next instant, a small draconic creature appeared at his feet—orange body, cream belly, huge blue eyes, and a tail wreathed in living flame.

Charmander.

The little Beast Spirit instantly captured every eye in the dormitory.

"Wow!" Xiao Wu squealed first, her own eyes sparkling. "He's adorable!"

She instinctively reached out to pet the smooth-looking head.

But the instant her fingertips neared—

"Grr-ah!"

Charmander jerked its head up, wariness flashing in its sapphire eyes. It opened its jaws,

and a puff of orange-red fire shot straight at Xiao Wu's hand.

The flame came sudden and hot.

Xiao Wu yelped, snatching her hand back and half-stepping away just in time; the fire brushed past her fingertips with a scorching gust.

Had Charmander not reined it in, the tiny jet might have singed her scorpion braid clean off.

"Hey!" She stared at her warming fingertips, then at the little dragon baring its teeth, tail-flame flaring higher. "You… you little brat! Why are you spitting fire at me?"

She glowered like a cat with its tail trodden on, cheeks puffed, but dared not try again.

Up close, against a fire-breathing, bad-tempered Charmander, she had no good counter.

She knew another pushy move would leave her very sorry—

and she rather liked her hair and clothes un-singed.

Seeing the tiff, Lin Mo crouched and stroked Charmander's head, calming it.

A low rumble came from the little dragon's throat; its tail-flame settled,

though its blue eyes stayed wary, as if it had seen through her.

"Sorry, Sister Xiao Wu," Lin Mo said. "Charmander's shy; he doesn't like strangers touching him."

"Hmph!" She pursed her lips, knowing she'd been too hasty, and muttered, "Fine, don't let me touch—no need to be so fierce…"

Wang Sheng and the others wanted to laugh at Xiao Wu's defeat but didn't dare; they turned their gaze back to the peculiar creature—this external Beast Spirit.

After the fuss, Lin Mo introduced it. "This is what hatched from the egg. I call him Charmander."

Everyone crowded round, studying the little dragon whose flaming tail lived up to the name.

Especially that ever-burning tail-flame—utterly wondrous.

"Charmander… suits him," Wang Sheng mused, then smacked his thigh as memory struck.

"Hey, Lin Mo, your Spirit… it reminds me of Grandmaster's… what's it called—right, Luo San Pao!

Your Charmander's a bit like Grandmaster's Luo San Pao!"

The others caught on at once.

"Yeah! Both Beast Spirits, yet they can exist outside the body like Tool Spirits!"

"But Luo San Pao looks, well, pudgy—part dog, part pig—not very threatening.

Charmander here looks far perkier and breathes fire!"

"Right, and his aura feels way stronger too!"

Wang Sheng asked, "So, is Charmander one of those External Beast Spirits?"

Lin Mo nodded. "Exactly. Like Grandmaster's Luo San Pao, he's an extremely rare External Beast Spirit."

He intended to reveal no more.

There was no need to mention Charmander's "Entei" innate gift or the multiple Spirit Abilities already at his command.

As an external Beast Spirit, Charmander was too conspicuous to hide like his heart Spirit.

He'd long since decided one of his twin spirits would have to be public.

Compared with keeping his heart Spirit as a hidden ace, letting Charmander roam free was the smarter choice: it explained his Innate Level Six talent while keeping the secret of twin spirits safe for now.

Having learned the basics, the group gazed at the lively Charmanderwith satisfied awe.

Watching a so-called Waste Martial Soul egg hatch into a mighty new Spirit was novel and breathtaking.
