Chapter 59: I Will Win!
Uvogin hesitated.
Reason told him not to go alone; death was likely waiting.
The memory of nearly being roasted alive in the arena was still fresh. It took nearly a month for the pain to fade.
But if he backed down now, Uvogin knew this event would become a thorn in his heart, a demon he could never conquer.
Damn it!
Unbeknownst to him, every move he made was watched by Shalnark and Machi.
They knew Uvogin too well.
Even with his face disfigured, they could read his thoughts from the slightest change in expression.
They exchanged a glance and reached the same conclusion.
Uvogin was hiding something from them, likely something that happened during his fight with Ronin's clone, away from everyone else's eyes.
"Follow him," Shalnark mouthed to Machi.
Machi nodded slightly. A Nen thread attached silently to Uvogin's shoe, completely unnoticed.
Meanwhile, Feitan and the others had returned to their hideout in an abandoned building on the outskirts.
After Ronin's clone popped, Uvogin and the others vented their frustration on the Mafia.
Being framed as thieves didn't matter.
They slaughtered the hundreds of mobsters at the Cemetery Building before Chrollo called them to the new rendezvous point.
By the time more Mafia arrived, all that remained were rows of twisted corpses hung in the air and scattered limbs on the ground.
The scene was nauseating even to hardened soldiers.
The Mafia launched a city-wide manhunt. The bounty on the Phantom Troupe in Yorknew skyrocketed.
For the next few days, if the Troupe wasn't found, Yorknew would descend into madness.
"I have to admit, this escaping Kurta brat has become a major threat. And it's hard for us to eliminate him," Chrollo closed his book and spoke after everyone gathered.
"The underground auction still has two pairs of Scarlet Eyes. That's still our chance to track Ronin," Shalnark's previous plan was void, but he looked at Kortopi. "If Kortopi swaps the eyes beforehand, can we track him?"
"He knows my ability. He'll likely be guarded against it," Kortopi didn't think it was reliable.
When Ronin escaped Uvogin, he tore off the tracker sticker.
That was why they hadn't used this tactic earlier.
"So what? Even if he finds the anomaly, he'll know the eyes are with us," Shalnark proposed. "Unless he gives up on the eyes. But based on my investigation, he's collecting them. He even fought Omokage to take his."
The investigation in Mordin City wasn't fruitless.
Anyone who had seen Ronin fight could guess what happened at the church—mud abilities dragging Nobunaga and Machi, combined with fire.
Clearly, Ronin had gained new insights into his ability back then.
"Okay," Kortopi was convinced.
Chrollo didn't object but added, "Ronin attacked the auction once. The Mafia will be on guard for the second time. Maybe we should have Kortopi make some corpses after the operation."
"Ours?" Kortopi asked.
"Yes," Chrollo was tired of being chased.
Faking death would shake off the pursuit, freeing them to focus on hunting Ronin.
"Will it be exposed? My ability is known," Kortopi doubted.
"24 hours is enough," Chrollo's eyes flashed. He looked at Uvogin. "Uvo, what do you think?"
His sudden question stunned Uvogin. Shalnark and Machi realized Chrollo had noticed Uvogin's abnormality too.
Uvogin was silent for a moment. "Gordeau Desert, ten kilometers west."
"Are you going to duel?" Chrollo's expression didn't change, as if asking a mundane question.
Uvogin nodded solemnly. "I'm not resigned."
"Are you confident?" Chrollo asked again.
Uvogin thought seriously, then shook his head.
Fighting the clone gave him a rough idea of Ronin's current strength.
Physically, Ronin might be slightly weaker, but his aura capacity wasn't far off.
If they just brawled with basic Nen, Uvogin was confident.
But Ronin's abilities were weird and unpredictable. Plus, he had clones. If the main body and clone fought together, it was a 2v1. Uvogin worried about being kited.
From previous fights, he knew Ronin excelled at mid-range AOE attacks.
And crucially, those attacks were strong enough to hurt or kill him!
"So you're prepared to die?" Chrollo raised an eyebrow slightly.
Uvogin lowered his head, a grin creeping onto his face. "I will win. Because I have the resolve!"
Chrollo was silent for a while. "Go then."
"Boss," Nobunaga called out.
He was Uvogin's longest partner and best friend. He didn't want to lose him here.
Uvogin grinned. "Don't worry. I will win!"
Franklin watched silently, his gaze drifting to the arm he had asked Machi to sew onto Uvogin.
"Don't be a hero. I don't want to collect your corpse," Shalnark said. "Just go. Leave the rest to us."
Phinks waved his arm next to Feitan. "This time, if he dares to use someone else's power, I'll make him regret it."
"You guys have such high morals," Feitan narrowed his eyes. "You better be fast. If I kill Ronin's partner and you haven't finished, don't blame me if I cut you too."
