Chapter 180 Let's Build a Spaceship!
Finney had no idea how angry Alexander Pierce was; he was currently taking stock of what he'd gained from Whitehall.
With Whitehall dead, everything he owned belonged to Finney. The experimental bases, needless to say, were all shut down or destroyed, and then sold off as much as possible to generate wealth.
This immediately swelled his pockets. While he couldn't compare to Tony yet, he could now say that problems that could be solved with money were no longer problems.
What remained were mostly weapons and fighter jets, which Finney couldn't sell, so he kept them for himself.
There were also some mysterious items Whitehall had collected, the purpose of which was unknown. Although few in number, they were what interested Finney the most.
However, when Finney saw these items, he was immediately disappointed. Whitehall's taste was truly terrible.
"What kind of garbage is this?!"
Finney stared speechlessly at the item before him. It was an item Whitehall had recently acquired, and Finney was actually quite familiar with it: a Zeta Swiss soldier's helmet!
The mere appearance of this thing instantly dashed Finney's hopes for Whitehall's so-called collection. He had hoped to find something of value to accelerate the Blue-Eyes White Dragon's evolution, but it turned out the alien helmet was also among this guy's hobbies.
Sure enough, after checking, Finney didn't find any energy-filled items. While some things were indeed unusual and strange, they were essentially useless to him.
Disappointed, Finney left Whitehall's collection room and ultimately went to find Tony.
Having left Vormir, he could no longer use the 'Golden Grand Evolution Technique' to create energy spheres, so to accelerate the Blue-Eyes White Dragon's evolution, he had to rely on Tony's miniature arc reactor.
At the Los Angeles villa,
Finney arrived to find Tony asleep at his workbench. The eight armor display slots that originally included the Mark I and the Hulkbuster had somehow doubled, though they were still empty.
"Jarvis, how long has he been working?"
Finney didn't wake Tony but went to the living room to ask Jarvis about the situation.
"Hello, Mr. Helsingborg, he's been working continuously for eleven hours today, and just now he took a break for four hours and twenty-three minutes!"
Jarvis reported to Finney.
Finney was stunned for a moment, then continued to ask, "Has he been like this all this time?"
"Yes, the longest he's worked continuously is twenty-three hours, and then he only rested for two hours before starting work again."
"Didn't Pepper stop him?"
Finney's mouth dropped open in surprise. This was even more diligent than his own skill training; it was practically a death wish!
"Miss Pepper was away those few days!"
"You should have stopped him, Jarvis!"
Finney said with some concern, while also feeling a little strange. This battle in New York wasn't as devastating as in the original storyline!
He had almost minimized the danger; only a small portion of the aliens had escaped, the politicians hadn't launched nuclear missiles, and Tony hadn't almost perished with a nuclear bomb.
Why was he working even harder than in the original storyline?!
"I tried, but sir didn't listen to my advice!"
"You should use a smarter method, Jarvis. For example, if this happens again, just call Pepper directly!"
Finney suggested to Jarvis, genuinely worried that Tony might accidentally overwork himself to death.
"What kind of bad idea are you giving my AI!"
Just then, Tony's hoarse and tired voice suddenly rang out from not far away. He came out of the stairwell, walking towards Finney as he said to Jarvis,
"J.a.r.v.i.s, don't listen to his nonsense. You're not allowed to call Pepper without my permission!"
"But, sir, I think Mr. Halsey's words make a lot of sense."
Finney was surprised by Jarvis's level of intelligence.
"But you should choose to obey my orders!"
"Yes, sir!"
Tony said with dissatisfaction. "No, sir!"
No matter how intelligent Jarvis was, it was still bound by its programming and had no room to disobey Tony's orders.
Tony went to the liquor cabinet, poured himself a drink, and downed it in one gulp. Then, with dark circles under his eyes, he sat down next to Finney and complained, "Don't teach Jarvis to tattle. You're an adult, don't act like a child." "
I'm afraid you'll suddenly die!"
Finney looked at Tony irritably, frowning as he asked, "What's wrong with you? What triggered this?"
Tony drank his liquor, remaining silent for a moment.
"Can't I even be told?"
Finney frowned, deciding not to ask Tony for the small arc reactor anymore, and got up to leave.
Seeing Finney's actions, Tony finally spoke: "Will they come back?"
"The Chitauri?"
Finney paused, turning to look at Tony. "If nothing unexpected happens, they will!"
Tony's face showed no surprise or astonishment, but rather remarkable calm. He nodded and continued, "Yes, they will definitely come back."
"Our strength is too weak!"
Tony interrupted Finney, who was about to speak, "I know you are powerful and have many abilities, but can you really protect the world alone?"
"In the battle just recently, 1,341 people still died, some of them children!"
Tony's expression was somewhat agitated. Finney fell silent. He genuinely didn't know how many people died in the Battle of New York, but he knew it was far fewer than in the original storyline.
Therefore, Finney didn't feel guilty, but Tony was different. Even if only one person died, he would take the blame upon himself.
"Next time they come, they'll definitely send even stronger forces. I think I should prepare in advance!"
"So your preparation is to frantically build suits of armor?! Planning to build one for everyone in the world?"
Finney looked at Tony calmly.
He knew this wasn't Tony's method, or rather, he probably hadn't figured out how to deal with this problem yet, and the idea of Ultron probably hadn't even been born.
Frantically building suits was just a way for him to release his unease; only the suits that made him feel safest could alleviate his inner anxiety.
Listening to Finney's words, Tony didn't say anything, his tired face showing confusion.
Looking at Tony like this, Finney sighed, pondered for a long time, and finally said slowly, "Let's build spaceships. Since you want to protect Earth so much, why don't you go and learn about the enemy first!"
"I'll go with you, let's take a trip in space!"
Finney hoped to dissuade Tony from creating Ultron, so he pointed out another way to protect Earth.
Besides, the universe is so big, he also wanted to see it properly, of course, forget about places like Vormir, which are like godforsaken planets.
However, there's a concern: with his current strength, venturing into space now would be quite dangerous, especially considering he also needs to protect Tony.
Building a spaceship won't be a quick task; before that, he should be able to acquire the eighth skill.
If all else fails, he can avoid going too far and explore the Nine Realms, getting to know his neighbors.
