Savannah's POV
The sound of tiny footsteps echoed through the hallway before I could even process what was happening.
"Mommy!"
A small boy launched himself into my arms with the enthusiasm of a bouncing rabbit. His little fingers clutched at the fabric of my sweatpants as he wrapped himself around me in a desperate embrace.
My entire body went rigid with shock. I stood there frozen while my brain struggled to catch up with the situation unfolding before me.
Ethel reacted faster than I did. She swept the toddler up from my arms and turned him around to face her directly. Despite everything, the child's smile never wavered.
"And you are Auntie Ethel!"
Ethel's eyebrows shot up, her expression caught somewhere between amusement and deep suspicion. When she spoke, her voice carried that careful tone she used when dealing with unpredictable situations.
"Who exactly are you, kiddo?"
