"Another dead end." Gideon slams the thick leather tome shut, the sound echoing through the towering walls of Harold Gate Academy's ancient library. "I'm beginning to suspect this demon is playing games with us. Maybe there is no Miguel at all, and he's just leading us around in circles to buy himself time."
"That would be typical demon behavior," Reyna mutters, glancing up from her own pile of dusty research materials. "And even if we manage to eliminate Miguel, we can't assume other demons won't pick up where he left off."
"Exactly," Charlette adds, her voice carrying the weight of centuries of experience. "That's precisely why we must exhaust every avenue to discover how to stop him permanently. The protective enchantment we placed on the Watson line should serve as our final barrier."
"Right," I respond, shifting uncomfortably in my chair and pulling my knees up toward my chest.
