"Just playing around. Obviously you're not my real father," I say, letting out a sharp laugh.
"Nora," he breathes heavily into the phone. "What are you doing? Where is she? Put Helena on immediately."
"Can't do that. She's currently occupied with some dark ceremonial activities, you know, trading her soul to my buddy Hugo. She'll be joining my supernatural sisterhood any moment now."
"Put Helena on the phone right now," his voice grows more demanding. "Or I swear I'll—"
"You'll do what exactly? Ring up the authorities and report that your daughters are spending time together? That's still the story everyone believes, isn't it? That I'm still a Sutton? Go right ahead. Explain to them why you're so panicked about Lena being here with Nora the Healer, someone who's dedicated the past ten years to charitable work. I'm sure I'll sound absolutely terrifying."
"If she's there with you, then she's around a vampire!"
