Nora's POV
The double doors explode inward and the larger creature charges through, snarling with rows of razor-sharp teeth gleaming in the dim light. The smaller beast spins around and bolts.
"No!" I scream, launching an energy ball at the fleeing monster. Antonia seizes my wrist and drags me toward the ventilation opening, causing my attack to go wide. The magical energy strikes the ceiling instead, showering us with brilliant white sparks. The tendrils of power sear Antonia's pale skin and she shrieks in agony.
I extinguish the magic crackling around my fingers and grab Antonia's burned arm, pulling her away from the falling energy. James heals almost instantly when my magic burns him, but he's centuries older and stronger than Antonia. Plus he feeds regularly, which helps vampires recover faster. I have no clue when Antonia last had blood.
