Nora's POV
"Any word from the Vampire Council?" I place my bag on the cushioned seat at the end of James's bed.
"Nothing." He tugs his dark t-shirt over his head before disappearing into his walk-in closet.
"Perfect, because dealing with both the Grand Shadowhaven and the VC has me ready to disappear completely and live by my own rules."
"You don't need to vanish to live independently," he responds, emerging while fastening a crisp white dress shirt. Heat coils in my belly watching him. James transforms anything into something sinfully attractive. Right now, dressed in those fitted black trousers and that pristine shirt, he resembles some immortal executive who would gladly devour me until sunrise. "I answer only to myself."
I raise an eyebrow at him.
"And to you," he adds with that devastating smile.
