Nora's POV
I stumble backward, my gaze locked on the empty space where Hugo stood moments before. My mouth opens slightly as my heartbeat pounds in my ears, trying to process what just occurred.
Lena was shot because of me. I raised that telekinetic barrier without conscious thought. Pure instinct kicked in when danger struck, the same automatic response that always protects me. But this time, I redirected the bullet away from myself and straight into my sister's abdomen.
I force myself to blink and glance down at her motionless form. A small pool of blood has formed beneath her on the floor, her clothing stained dark red. Yet her chest moves up and down in a steady rhythm, and she appears serene, sleeping peacefully on the floor despite nearly dying moments ago.
All because of Hugo.
Hugo.
He escaped Hell. He can move freely across Earth now.
