"Finally," I whisper and sink back onto the couch. "I wondered what kept Gideon so long. Though honestly, I'd forgotten I even asked for information about the witches."
"That's what came through your fireplace?" James stands and walks to the hearth, pulling open the iron door. "A folder and some kind of book."
"Perfect. Faith managed to get the Book of the Beast to him too."
"This is witch magic... moving objects through space."
"Yes. It requires advance preparation, and sometimes it fails completely. But Gideon has considerable power."
"He called you sister." James returns to the couch, placing the folder and book on the coffee table. I'm too exhausted to examine everything right now. "But you're not blood relatives."
"No. His mother serves as High Priestess of our coven and ran Harold Gate Academy when I first enrolled. My birth family has no magical abilities. Charlette arranged for me to live with them temporarily to help me adapt."
