Nora's POV
"You're going to call her back, right?"
"Yes," I respond to James, releasing another weary breath.
My mind feels sharp and alert, but my body screams for rest. The contradiction leaves me feeling strange and disconnected. We settle back into bed, and I dial Katherine's number. It rings through to voicemail, which makes perfect sense if she's returned to the Academy for another training session. I record a quick message asking her to return my call when possible, then place the phone on my nightstand.
"How are you holding up?" James asks, his broad palm settling against my spine.
"Fine. Demons wandering through the forest isn't exactly unusual."
"Fair point, but I was asking about everything else from last night. We haven't had time to process any of it." His arms circle around me, drawing me back down onto the mattress.
"To be honest," I begin, "I'm completely lost on how to feel about it."
