Relief washes over me the moment I cross the threshold of our new home. The familiar weight pressing against my chest lifts instantly as I close the door behind me. Whatever game Chad was playing at the grocery store, whether surveillance or psychological warfare, his influence cannot penetrate these walls.
The protective spell Kevin and Charlette wove around the property continues to hold strong, though I sense its gradual weakening with each passing day. Time is not on our side. Somewhere out there, Chad is hunting for another desperate soul to corrupt, someone willing to do his bidding in exchange for whatever dark promises he whispers.
I entered through the side entrance, which we transformed into a practical mudroom. After hanging my purse on the custom-built coat rack, I head back outside to tackle the groceries. The covered walkway connecting the house to the garage remains unfinished, waiting for spring weather to allow the concrete pour.
