Chapter 1 - The encounter

Akio was training relentlessly in his garden, sweat dripping down his face. With each swing of his wooden sword, his grip loosened, and the sword wobbled. His muscles were sore. Akio knew he wasn't talented, but still, he kept training, driven by his goal.

After months of ruthless training, Akio's body had transformed. His breath could last longer in training. When Akio felt he was ready to become an adventurer, the next morning he decided to go to the capital, which is located in the kingdom of Verterra. The kingdom of Verterra is known for strong adventurers, beautiful views, and many hot springs. The people of Verterra are also friendly.

The next morning, the sun rose in the east, and Akio set off. After several weeks of travel, Akio finally reached the capital. Akio gazed up at the capital; he saw towers pierced through the sky. The people were full of energy. It was a peaceful day when Akio made his way to the blacksmith district. As he opened the door, he heard the clangs of hammers. When he stepped to the shop and approached the blacksmith, he said, "I need two swords and one set of armor." He said to the blacksmith with full of confidence and courage.

The blacksmith looked at Akio and said, "Sir, that will cost five gold coins."

He paid five gold coins to the blacksmith. The blacksmith took the gold coin and gave him the armor and the sword. Before Akio left, he wore the armor and equipped the sword and said, "This armor was better than I expected."

After he bought the armor and sword, he left and went to the guild. Akio's palms were sweaty, and his hands were shaking. As he opened the guild door and saw other adventurers that were bigger and stronger, he felt more motivated. Akio approached the receptionist and said, "Hello there, I'd like to register in the guild." He said, and the guild receptionist replied with full of determination, "Hello there, I'm Silk, the guild receptionist." After Silk told him her name, he proceeded to tell Akio what he needed to register. Silk pulled out a paper with the box in the middle that can calculate your status accurately. "Put your name and age, then put your hand here to calculate your level and to register you."

"There are 6 ranks depending on your level. The ranks are Rank S, Rank A, Rank B, Rank C, Rank D, Rank E," Silk stated to Akio. After Akio heard it, he put his name and age; then he put his hand in the paper, and the paper glowed and revealed his status, and Akio looked at the paper.

Name: Akio Anteros

Age: 19

Level: 10

Magic power: 20

Skill: none

Skill rank: none

Rank: E

"What? E rank?"

A wave of disappointment washed over him, but he quickly regained his composure.

"Your rank is E, but you can still Rank up by leveling up your stats," Silk said. Then, she gave the adventurer guild card to Akio so he could start now.

"Can I ask, where can I take quests here?" Akio asked Silk.

"The quest area is there." She pointed to the board at the side. The quest area was full of adventurers. The board was long, and there are many quests to choose from.

"And before that, you can't take quests that the rank are higher than you; you can only take the quest if the rank is not higher than you."

"After you finish the quest, you need to bring the gemstone of the monsters; it drops when it died or killed," Silk stated. Akio nodded and went to the quest area, trying to find a quest. Akio saw a quest that fit his rank; he thought the quest would be easy.

Kill 10 goblins in the west of the forest

Rank: E

Reward: two gold coins

Akio took the quest, and he left the guild and found a place where he could live and rest. After a minute, he found a house that was for sale. The house has 2 floors, and it has 3 bedrooms. The owner approached him and said, "Do you want to buy the house?"

"Yes, I want it. How much is it?"

"It costs 20 gold coins." Akio bought the house; the owner gave him the key and left. Akio entered the house and went to the bedroom to get some rest. He lay to the bed and got some sleep.

The next day, he woke up, getting ready for the quest. He equipped the armor and got his swords, and he walked out of his house. He made his way to the forest; he saw many adventurers heading to the forest. After an hour, he arrived at the west forest. The forest is dense and dangerous; there are a lot of monsters lurking around.

He hesitated to enter the forest, took a deep breath, and entered the forest. After a few minutes, he saw one goblin. The goblins were tall, muscular, and green-skinned. When the goblin saw Akio, the goblin charged at him. "I can do this," he thought.

The goblin struck, but he managed to block the attack using his two swords. The goblin attacked again, and this time, the goblin broke Akio's defense, and Akio was hit, sent flying into the air.

"This goblin is stronger than I thought."

He said, he quickly got up and attacked the goblin. He swung his sword; the goblin got hit and cut in half, blood splashing everywhere. When suddenly Akio felt someone was following him, but he couldn't prove it, so he ignored it. He picked up a gemstone that the goblin dropped. He attacked more goblins.

The magical beast watching Akio fight, he thought that Akio had a lot of potential.

This kid had potential, he thought.

Akio felt his body was about to give up, so he sat to the nearby tree to rest, when suddenly a goblin attacked him from behind and he got thrown to the air, when he hit the ground he couldn't move at all.

"Oh shit, I'm gonna die."

Akio couldn't move. He trembled as the goblin went to him, about to attack. The magical beast appeared at the nearby tree, and it attacked the goblin. He bit the goblin and ripped off its arm, and blood splashed over him.

As the beast looked at him, he started shaking, and he couldn't move because of the brutality of the beast. The beast walked over to him and said, "You have a lot of potential on swordsmanship."

"R... Really?" He said in a low tone. The beast transformed to his human form.

"I can train you; I've mastered swordsmanship if you want, though I won't force you," He said in a serious tone. Akio thought for a moment; he thought if he got trained by him, he will get stronger. After a while, he decided to train with the beast.

"I'll train with you," He replied, the beast nod and introduce himself.

"My name is Ryou Artaxerxes."

"I will consider you as my disciple."

"Mister Ryou, how long will you train me?"

Akio asked, Ryou look at him and replied.

"Until you master all techniques that I will teach you."

Ryou healed Akio, Akio was amazed for his healing magic.

"Healing magic? Wow, that's cool, Mister Ryou."

"Isn't it rare, Mister Ryou?"

Akio asked, Ryou was amazed by Akio's knowledge about magic.

"Yes, it is rare. Now stand up, and shall I train you today or tomorrow?"

"We can start tomorrow, Mister Ryou; I need to finish my quest today."

Ryou nod and said.

"Meet me at the guild tomorrow."

Akio nod, and Ryou left; Akio proceeded to his quest. After a few hours, Akio finally finished his quest and started to leave the forests. He headed his way to the capital.

After a few hours, the sun started to set, so he hurried up. After 1 hour, he arrived at the guild, and he approached Silk. He handed off a gemstone dropped by the goblins. Silk confirmed it and paid two Gold to him.

"I would like to update my level."

He said, Silk nod, and she placed paper on the table.

"Put your hand here."

Silk said Akio nod and put his hand to the paper. The paper started to glow bright. After a few seconds, the paper stopped glowing, and Akio looked at the paper and saw his status.

Skill Rank: Unknown

"Wait, why does my skill say unknown?"

He looked a bit confused. Silk looked at the paper.

"I think it's an error, or just your skill is not developed yet."

Akio nod and left. He was thinking about the skill why it can't be shown. Akio went to his house.
