Synopsis
Thousands of years before their fall, the Ancient Civilization built a foundation for advanced technology and a world of peace among man and monster. The ecosystems across the world flourished without a single worry. However, peace can never last for eternity. Follow as a father and son travel to new home only for disaster to follow. This is a Monster Hunter fanfic set thousands of years prior to one of today’s most loved video game series and my favorite franchise.

Chapter 1 - Sorrowful Knowledge

The day had just turned to morning, sun shining into the room through thick stained glass revealing a wooden desk with a shelf of books behind. Paperwork strewn across the the table as well as books and scrolls. It was clear the room had been some ones office to some extent. The door handle turns slowly opens, creaking the further it went.

"I suppose I should pack some of this up…" A tall, thin man walked into the room, rubbing the back of his head. His silver hair pulled back into a ponytail and glasses hung from the bridge of his nose. He walks over to the desk and sits down in his chair to look over what he should take with him on his journey. The titles of his notes and books varied from Monster Ecology and known Elder Dragons to his own personal research, two of which included the titles of Project EDW and Project Hunter. "I definitely need these…" he tells himself as he reaches down and grabs a satchel, rolling up his notes into scrolls and stuffing them into the satchel. He grabs his notebook and a couple other books as well and slips them into the satchel when he hears a knock on his door.

"Professor? May I come in?" A soft feminine voice could be heard from the other side of the door.

"Of course come in." He replies, setting the satchel by the desk before continuing to put books back into the shelves they came from. As he did, a young woman walks into the room wearing a black dress, hair as white as snow and looking like nobility.

"Professor Vannes… I'm sorry to interrupt and I know you're still mourning Artemis…."

"That's enough Lady Luna…." He was frozen with a book in his hand that had her name on it. "Artemis wouldn't want me to mourn like this. I have to take care of Leon so I must continue my work." He smiled as he could recall the day she made this book. He turned around to the young Lady, slowly walking over to her. "Do you know what this is?" He softly asked her as he held the book up for her.

"A book made by Artemis?" She stared at it, her eyes widened.

"Who do you suppose we have to thank for some of our knowledge on the outside world? Artemis was a researcher like myself, but she researched the Wyvern and Elder Dragon world the best she could. It's thanks to her we and her father as well as his team of researchers who gave us this information." He reached up and gently took her right hand with his left and gently placed the book in her hands. "I never had the chance to publish this with the public and now that I am taking Leon with me to travel to The Tower, I want you to have this."

Luna looked at the book then took it in both hands. "Artemis taught me as well as everyone else in the academy what we know." She held it close. "I'll take care of it Professor…"

He smiles then turns away from her. "I'm going to get back to cleaning, please tell your father I'll stop by before we leave."

"I will… And thank you." She leaves him to his own thoughts. He felt a weight had been lifted but only by a bit. "Now where was I?"

Meanwhile, a young boy sat at home in his room, windows covered to completely darken his room. He sat on his bed in the corner of the room wondering why this had to happen. His life felt empty as his mother was gone for good, his father away to pack his office, and there he sat alone. His mind wandered aimlessly while he sat in the dark, questioning what would happen now. Castle Schrade had been the only place he knew as home and could call home. Even Lady Luna treated him like a little brother though they weren't related.

An hour had gone by when he hears the door to their home shut. He could hear footsteps moving up the stairs, growing closer to him with each second until they stop outside his door.

"Leon?! Can we talk?" His father asked through the door. He could hear a sigh which left silence for a few seconds even though they felt like an eternity. The door slowly opened to show his father who stood at the door with it cracked enough to peer in.

Leon laid in the corner covered up on his bed. Vannes walks over slolwy then sits down on the bed beside him. He sat there staring at the wooden floor of the bedroom for a few minutes.

"How would you feel if we took a trip?" He knew the thought of mentioning her would lead to more silence.

Leon shuffled under the covered a little "And leave her?" He softly grumbled.

"We would be leaving her, yes…" Vannes looks over to his covered up son. "Your mother traveled so much in her life, you could almost say you're like her." He reaches over, placing his hand on his shoulder. "It's not to forget about her, but to make use what she has done for us. You'll be able to encounter so many creatures, and you won't be alone ever again."

Silence fills the room for a while again. Leon hesitates at first, but then sits up and uncovered himself. His eyes red from having cried so much. "Where will we be going?"

Vannes smiles softly, reaching up to rub his son's cheek. "Where we are going will be pretty far from here, but look out your window and you'll see it."

Leon sighs, slipping out of his bed to slide his curtains open, almost blinding him at first. "What am I looking at dad…"

Vannes gets up to walk over, kneeling down just enough to get his sons point of view. He reaches up and points to the far distance past the walls of Castle Schrade and past the vast mountains. In the distance a large, looming tower can be seen clear as day even though it's so far. "That is we here are going."

Leon looks at the tower then back at his father "The Tower?"
