The sky over Kumogakure had never been so heavy. These weren't the usual storm clouds that gave the village its name, but a thick, gray mantle that seemed to press down on every citizen's shoulders.

In the center of the main plaza, thousands of shinobi stood in formation in such absolute silence that it was deafening. There were no murmurs only the sound of wind clashing against half-mast flags.

In the center of the platform, a sealed coffin bearing the Lightning emblem rested under an honor guard.

It contained a complete body; though the wear of three days of battle against ten thousand men and the use of Black Lightning had finished him, his body did not break. Worthy of the title "Strongest Shield," it filled every corner of the village.

An elder from the council, his voice cracked by age and respect, stepped forward. His voice amplified by chakra resounded through the mountain peaks:

"The Lightning has returned to the clouds. But its light has not been extinguished. From this moment, under the witness of our sky and our blood… A is named the Fourth Raikage."

A's figure advanced. His muscles were tense, his expression an iron mask. There were no tears in his eyes, and no trace of sadness. For him, mourning was a weakness he could not afford in front of a wounded village.

He placed his giant hand on the cold metal of the coffin and squeezed until his knuckles turned white.

"My father did not die so we could cry," A said his voice low but heard by all.

"He died so Kumogakure could continue growing. Perhaps he thought that by dying, everyone would forget him and focus on me but that won't happen."

Beside him, Killer B remained unusually quiet no rhymes, no jokes. The message was clear: Kumo was not defeated. They were withdrawing, licking their wounds, but ready to explode again with the force of a hurricane.

"From this day forward, I want the new generations of ninjas in this village to see my father as a challenge to surpass and admire a single shinobi who fought against 10,000 ninjas and won, dying on his feet without surrendering even though his body could take no more," A continued making many ninjas feel the powerful words of the now-Fourth Raikage.

"If you all feel the same as I do, I want you to shout his name with all your strength to bid him farewell as he deserves."

With those words, no shinobi held back they began shouting the name of the Third Raikage A, so loudly that the high mountains carried the call throughout the country, allowing the soul and legacy of the Third Raikage to depart with the honor he deserved.

In the Land of Earth

Hundreds of kilometers away, in the Village Hidden in the Rocks, the atmosphere was radically different. Though the official news spoke of a victory the elimination of an enemy Kage the air in Iwa still smelled of defeat, even if no one said it out loud.

Ōnoki, the Third Tsuchikage, floated through the corridors of his tower toward the balcony overlooking the plaza.

Upon stepping out, thousands of ninjas cheered him. His posture was firm, his head held high, and his voice cut through the wind like a stone blade.

"The enemy has fallen!" Ōnoki shouted to his people.

"No one survives the will of the Rock! The Raikage is history, and Iwagakure stands firm as the tallest mountain in the world and the strongest ninjas."

Ōnoki looked at all the shinobi of his village observing how they now paid even more attention to his next fight.

"As you know, we lost many brothers but that won't stop us. Here we carry the will of our fallen comrades, and we will carry them to victory. Konoha is next!"

The cheers of the shinobi resounded many supporting the idea of continuing to fight for their fallen comrades but for Ōnoki, those cheers sounded hollow.

After finishing the speech, he returned to his office and closed the heavy stone door. The moment he was alone, the "man of stone" crumbled.

He removed the Tsuchikage hat and let it fall onto the table. His hands trembled. On his desk lay a scroll he would show no one: the casualty list. Five thousand names in the first forty-eight hours. Another five thousand sent to ensure the death of a single man.

He sat in his chair, staring at the map of the nations. His eyes tired from decades of cynical politics lingered on the names of the fallen captains.

Entire generations of Iwa families had been erased in three days.

"How many more, Ōnoki?" he asked himself in the silence of the room. "How many more generations will you have to bury for the name of the Rock to remain respected?"

He had been the one who authorized the attrition strategy. He knew it was the only way to kill that monster named A but the price… the price was suffocating him.

He didn't regret the decision a Kage must be a perfect image for his shinobi but for the first time, the stone in his heart showed cracks.

He knew Iwa had suffered a deep wound but if his ninjas demanded war, that was what they would do.

Onoki walking thru his office look himself in the mirror he know he is getting old but today he feels older than ever

In the Land of Fire

In Konohagakure, the strongest village, the mood was one of cautious optimism. The war council had gathered in the main tower.

Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, listened attentively to reports from his clan leaders and advisors, Homura and Koharu Danzō Shimura.

"Kumo has officially withdrawn from the northern borders," an intelligence jōnin reported.

"A's rise as Fourth Raikage has centralized their forces on defense. We don't expect attacks from them in the coming months."

"Iwa should be too busy counting their corpses," Koharu added. "They won the battle against Kumo, but they've lost the capacity to sustain an offensive against us so we expect no large-scale attacks."

Hiruzen nodded, smoking his pipe.

"It's time to redirect forces," the Hokage declared. "We'll take advantage of Iwa being weakened to press on the Rain and Grass fronts. If we move Minato's units to the northeast, we can force a favorable truce with Ōnoki."

Danzō stepped forward his partially bandaged face illuminated by candlelight.

"And what about Sunagakure?" Danzō asked suspiciously.

The intelligence analyst let out a small laugh, downplaying it.

"Lord Danzō, Sunagakure has withdrawn almost all its forces from shared borders.

Our spies report they're pulling back toward the interior of the desert.

It seems the Wind Daimyō's lack of funds has finally broken them. Suna is in survival mode; they pose no immediate threat.

They're probably too busy trying not to starve to think about war."

The council nodded. To Konoha's eyes, Suna was a dying village a village that no longer had pieces to play on the world board maybe in the end of this war their title of one of the great village may be remove.

They decided to drop them from their strategic priorities focusing all their war now against Iwa and Kiri.

With the new strategies devised by the Nara, Konoha began attacking its enemies driving them out of all their zones and restoring their former advantages.

Keeping them in a good position against all their enemies.

In the Land of Wind

Far from the cries of war and state funerals, fifty meters beneath the burning sands of Sunagakure, the world was a vibrant pink and peaceful.

Daigo was alone in the main corridor of Grand Tunnel 01. There was no sweat on his forehead, despite having just finished the most complex engineering work of his life.

He never imagined that taking all those engineering classes would help him in life since in the end he never got a job there but here they worked quite well.

Of course, there were surely mistakes but that's why there were real builders here who could point out the flaws.

The tunnel wasn't a simple excavation; it was a perfect crystal artery, with reinforced walls glowing with a soft, constant light thanks to the illumination seals he himself had helped calibrate.

This first tunnel connected the heart of the village with the most important border oasis a distance that on foot under the sun took two days, but here was covered in six hours, in a cool environment protected from sandstorms and the sunmaking animals need less rest.

"Just as I thought once we move everything underground and with good security, it should be the most valuable thing for Suna," Daigo whispered running his hand over the smooth crystal surface.

He could feel the vibration of the world above. Thanks to his seismic sense, he knew Konoha and Iwa were beating each other up and ignoring them, believing the danger had passed.

He had finished the first great tunnel. The longest, the hardest to stabilize. Now that he had perfected the technique of covering it with crystal using Kōzō no Shizuku, the next tunnels would be created at speed.

Hearing footsteps approaching from behind, he turned to see Rasa.

"Rasa I didn't expect to see you down in the tunnels. What do you think?" Daigo asked from his spot watching as Rasa seemed to examine everything.

Rasa didn't respond right away he move close to the wall and with a gesture of his hand, Gold Dust emerged from his clothes creating a gold dagger then striking the crystal walls.

At the impact, the crystal didn't break as Rasa thought thanks to Daigo's idea, the blow passed through the wall, continuing down the corridor making the impact spread across the long tunnel instead of focusing on one point.

"Eh you want to sabotage me to lose points for the Kazekage seat?" Daigo asked Rasa who shook his head.

"I just came to see what you were doing out of curiosity. In the end, I'm not worried about the Kage position it'll go to whoever is strongest," Rasa said creating a gold chair and sitting down.

"Same here but it's funny to tease you. Now tell me the truth why are you here?" Daigo asked looking at Rasa.

Though to a normal person it wouldn't be noticeable, Daigo could sense Rasa had come with something thanks to his seismic sense.

"Looks like I can't hide anything from you though I don't think you can help me with this. You're a kid," Rasa said.

"Eh but how would you know if you haven't told me anything? Spit it out let's hear it."

Rasa took a few seconds then, placing his hands over the bridge of his nose, he let it out.

"I had a pretty serious fight with Karura and I haven't been able to resolve things with her," Rasa said in a confused tone.

"I see women always giving their partners problems. Tell me what was the problem this time?"

"No idea that's why I'm confused. All I understood from what she said was that I spend all my time training or on missions."

"I didn't think you were so dense, Rasa but I think I have the solution to your problems," Daigo commented standing up from the ground.

"And what is it? Surprise me."

"Spend time with her, Rasa. Women don't tell you things directly they'll always find a way to ask for something without being direct. Take her out to eat or just walk around the village and buy her something she likes," Daigo said.

"I see that makes sense. I haven't been alone with her in a while. But what could she like? Every time I've bought her something, she says she doesn't like it," Rasa asked.

"Let me guess you probably got her a gold kunai that has no value to her. Just take her as I said to a nice place to eat I know you have enough money to do it, and then pass by the market. Look at what she pays attention to there'll be a sign telling you what she wants," Daigo explained to Rasa who seemed to be storing all the information in his mind.

"I see so I ask her if she wants it and buy it."

"No if you ask her, she won't want it. Just buy it and that's it don't ask anymore. Seriously how did you even get Karura to fall for you if you're such an idiot who only thinks about being a ninja?" Daigo said already frustrated by how stupid Rasa was.

"I don't only think about being a ninja, Daigo and I have no idea. But we were friends since we were kids."

"I see you got lucky. If not, you'd still be a virgin because I doubt anyone would fall for you. Now go I don't want to see you in my tunnels unless you pay," Daigo said kicking Rasa who only nodded, changing the shape of his chair into a cloud, getting on, and leaving.

Leaving Daigo alone watching his figure fly away.

"Why does he always rely so much on his sand? I know it looks comfortable and all but shunshin is better."

"I am not jealous about him"
