So the power system of my novel could come as quite complicated but it is very simple at its core. It just has two things at its base.
1. The 'Will' to do something
2. The 'ability' to do something
Everyone has a soul seed which can be used to store astral powers and we can use these powers by spending our spiritual energy. The powers stored in our soul represents our ability and the spirituality represents our will.
Now everyone is born with a soul seed which may or may not have inherited powers depending upon the parents. If the parents have powers of mind domain the offspring may have inherited mind related powers.
Upon death we leave our soul seed which can be consumed by others to gain it's powers.
It should be taken in the from of potions for easy digestion.
It cannot be in conflict with your own powers. Eg the fire and ice powers are not compatible and it will destroy your soul.
Consuming so many unrelated powers can cause loss of control, paranoia, mental disorders, mutations.
If you consume enough related powers you can experience a qualitative change and evolve into next stage.
Over the course of history people have experimented and formed some propers evolutionary paths and rules that ensures the most stability and least risks. These are called paths to the divine as people believe one can become a god if they follow a proper path but no one has ever become a god yet.
People who have such powers are called ascendants and are classified in five ranks depending on their soul seed stage.
1Star (beginner)- it mainly has passive abilities or the abilites that are a must have for their further evolution. Eg fire resistance, ignition
2Star (intermediate)- it has much potent abilities that can truly be called superpowers.
Eg explosions, fire balls etc
3Star(advanced)- people at this stage can alter some laws to make their abilities more dangerous. Eg making electricity flow in air, fire burning without any fuel etc
4Star(experts) - people at this stage become even more law bending and use mind-blowing abilities. Eg soul flames that can burn the soul directly etc
5Star(masters)- it is the peak of power that humans have achieved. Any further evolution is deemed impossible by many but it is also believed to be the wall that separates mortals from god's. Eg causing atomic explosions, using fire in solid form etc.
Now you may ask from where do these astral power come from. They come from the Astral world.
Astral world - It is the amalgamation of all the concepts and laws of the universe. It is believed that gods live in the Astral world. It is not bound by dimensions and exists in the form of symbols and authorities that are incomprehensible for ordinary beings. It represents the omnipotentce of the universe.
And for the spirituality, yes it also comes from the spritual world. Every being has its sprituality that represents it's will and consciousness. And the sprit world is the consciousness of the universe. It has infinite information about everything in the universe and represents its omniscience.
As you rise in ranks your sprituality will also increase in quantity and quality enabling you to exert your will on the universe causing the reality bending effect of astral powers.
It also has a lot of other uses and applications that you will see in the novel.
