Today is the 21st of July—your birthday.
I did not have a chance to greet you personally because I was too busy being self-centered. I was too busy worrying about things that should have not affected me in the first place.
School started just a week ago. I'm in my senior year now, and I presume you are too. Time flies so quickly now. Five years ago, I remember crying every night because I lost you. Three years ago, I found myself crying again because of a guy who cheated on me. Two years ago, I cried once more over a guy I ended things with because he wasn't ready to commit. And just three months ago, I spent two whole months bawling my eyes out every single day because of a girl who led me on, only to reject me in the end.
I suppose you can call me unfortunate when it comes to relationships.
Now, I find myself wanting to start over. I want to move forward toward my future, one that I still hope is as bright as ever. I don't intend to forget the past—I simply want to forgive. I don't want to carry any regrets with me anymore.
I no longer have a reason to write to you, but I still will. Not because I have to, but because I want to. I will write to you every 21st of every month, just to let these thoughts exist somewhere.
Life hasn't been the same since you left. I have changed in ways I never expected. The world around me has changed, and so has my heart—where it belongs, and who it chooses. Time has a way of quietly changing everything.
Wherever life takes you, I genuinely hope it treats you kindly. I wish you nothing but the best, always.
Yours truly,
A
