Chapter 3-
My POV:
The dark & silenced room was filled with sounds of heavy breath. 'No, don't c....come near....near me....I don't wanna s...see you. Don't .... don't.... no....' I sprang up on my bed, sweating & breathing hard. I searched for the switch to light up the room & took my water bottle controlling my breath. I drank water & stepped out on the veranda for some air. This room was suffocating me. I looked here & and there, making sure that no one was watching me. The high power searchlights were kept on in our campus around college as well as dormantery building. I looked up at the sky, recalling the past days.
In mind - "It's about five months our area is being attacked by these creepy creatures called Shadowmorph. The government says that these Shadowmorphs travel through portals & appear only in light. But among them, some are adapting to the light to some extent & can be seen in the daylight but just for a fraction of the second. Our college has arranged the dormantery rooms for all the students till we graduate. I feel lonely sometimes without my family but I have to stay here.....
Why do I even get those dreams? Why do I feel so helpless? & What is the meaning of this dream?????? Ahhhhhh, this is so frustrating." Suddenly, I heard a faint sound of a knock from the opposite veranda & it was in room no. 7. "The figure looks like Neha..... yes, she is Neha .... wow, Malini, you do have a good eye sight. " I praised myself in my mind. I saw her going inside & then the lights were turned off. I smirked in the dark,"Don't overwork yourself, Neha..... good choice, finally she is going to be happy. " I took out my phone, unlocked my gallery & saw his pic. "I wish I could hear his voice now," I sighed. Just then, my phone vibrated & seeing the caller ID, I was smiling like an idiot. "Dhruv....." & we continued chatting in my room till we fell asleep. The next morning, I woke up, took a bath, dressed up & looked into my small mirror. "Shit, I missed my morning work & exercises today. I wish I hadn't woken up at 2 am. yesterday. Common Malini, you can do it. Just take a deep breath & smile & let's go for breakfast. " I locked my room & went towards the dining hall for breakfast. I filled up my plate with a sandwich, a handful of nuts & a glass of fruit juice & sat at the corner of the last bench, avoiding everyone's gazes. It's 8:30 am so we got 1 more hrs to be ready for our classes. I rinsed my plate & was about to go into my room to finish my homework when I heard a voice behind me.
"Ignoring me & walking away." I looked back, turning to him "N..no I am not ignoring you, Nir... I mean...toothless. It's just that I haven't finished the homework on Parasitology... gotta go. See you in class bye" & I ran from there leaving him confused.
On reaching my class, I took my seat in the back as usual. I took a breath & started to observe my surroundings. The love birds were busy in themselves, " Control your hormones, Ayan," I said in my mind with a smirk. Neha was looking very happy today, I used to be happy a week before, and I let out a sigh. Suddenly, I felt someone's eyes on me. (Shit) I looked to my left & there he was looking at me with his doe eyes trying to read my mind. "Stop," I mouthed & CP mam entered the class. We had our back to back classes till 2 pm & then it was lunchtime. I somehow managed to escape his eyes & had my lunch. Our last class was a practical class & I was partnered with Neha. In between the practical, we had some chit chats & teases.
Neha-" Hey.... all good with you?"
Me- " Yes...I ..I am good."
Neha- " Then why are you running around today from us?"
Me - " No, nothing... I was kind of busy." She looked at me suspiciously & then went back to work.
Me- " So Neha, how was your last night in room no 7?" I smirked at her. She stopped her work & looked at me, widening her eyes. I continued my work & again whispered, "Was he good with his tongue?" She choked in the air.
Neha- " What?? How Malini? Did he..... I told him not to say this to anyone. " she almost whispers the last part in embarrassment. I pulled up her chin and kept my hand on her shoulder. " He didn't break his word, Neha it's just that I got to know by observing both of you. Don't be shy. I am not judging you based on your past experiences. Love can come from anywhere & anytime." She was listening to me with a glimpse of tears in her eyes. I made eye contact with her & and asked, " Do you feel safe, warm, happy, loved, cared for by being with him?" A small tear escaped her eye while she vigorously nodded her head as yes.
Me- " Then don't think about what this shitty world says their fucking opinion. Just enjoy your life & I don't wanna see tears in your eyes." She rubbed her tears & I smiled at her before returning back to the practical.
Finally, class ended & my body was drained out of energy, I needed a nap. I came to my room & threw myself in bed. Tossing from side to side for 10 mins, I couldn't sleep. That dream was haunting me. I was even terrified to close my eyes now as I have had the same dream for at least 4 days repeatedly this week. I heard a knock while I was thinking about this with one hand on my eyes. "Yes, you can come in. It's unlocked."
??- " If you are taking rest, I can come back later, Malini." I opened my eyes & looked at the owner of the voice. " Ohh Vikash da..... what happened? Anything urgent, you could have called for me." I sat up straight on my bed.
Vikash da- " Malini, can I ask you one question?" He sat on my chair while keeping an eye on me.
Vikash da- " I have been noticing you from the past week. You are becoming weak & pale like you saw something that terrified you a lot. Also you are avoiding your friends. Did you see anything or feel anything that is terrifying you in any way?" He asked in one breath.
(In my mind) - "Sorry Vikash da, I can't make you worry about me. You have a lot more pressure on your shoulders."
Me- " Actually Vikash da I am missing Maa very much & thinking about the situation I am sad. Nothing else, Vikash da, everything is alright."
Vikash da- "Well then if you say so I won't worry about it. Just take care of yourself, my child. " he ruffled my hair & went away closing the door. A tear escaped from my eyes & I went back to sleep. At night we all completed our studies & had our dinner on time. I forced myself to be normal in front of everyone.
The next day, it went pretty well. At the breakfast table, toothless approached me with his plate.
He -" So are you alright? You were acting weird yesterday."
Me -" M-Me no I am alright. That's perfectly fine." I plastered a fake smile to show him. To make things easier between us, I started up a conversation.
"Did you confess to her last night?" He almost choked in his juice while I laughed hard, looking at him. He gave me a look like he is gonna eat me & like I fear him.
Me -" Don't look at me like that. I know everything between you and Neha from the very beginning. Nothing goes unnoticed by me. " & I winked. He took a big gulp of his sandwich & and said ," I couldn't gather my courage to confess to her that I like her, not as a friend but as my girl. I want to spoil her with all my love, but what if she refuses from her past experiences. Then our friendship will also come to an end which I can't afford." I looked at him -" Last night, did she respond to your kiss warmingly or hesitate & said no to you?" He nodded his head as "yes", -"then don't think negatively, she is ready to be yours. Go ahead & confess before she changes her mind. " I went towards the sink to wash my plate & then back to my room. Then, as usual, we had our class, and some of the students went back to their home for 3 days as they were permitted. In the afternoon I went up to the rooftop & sat on the railing. I was looking at the sky & thinking all about my haunting dreams & shadowmorphs. Suddenly I became angry & frustrated about our present situation & imagined about lifting a heavy stone & breaking it into pieces. The next moment I saw a strange strong blue light surrounded me & lifted a heavy stone & broke it into many small pieces. I was so startled, -" What the!! Woah so I can use my psychic skill as a telepathy also. I always knew that I have only healing power. Super cool" I said in my mind while looking at my hand.
"Guess I have to start my practice like in my previous days. I will become well trained to fight against these monsters". While I was talking to myself I felt a presence of someone but when I looked up in all the directions I saw no one. -"So you are sitting over here & I am searching everywhere. Come down right now" I looked at the voice, it was Shruti. She had a strictness in her voice. She looks cute while she is angry. I came down from the railing & walked to her. -" What were you thinking while sitting on the railing? What would happen if you fell down?" I saw her angry pout with crossed hand on her chest. I kissed her on the cheeks lightly & said " You are there to save me. Now come down & then tell me why are you looking for me?". She was speechless for a few seconds as I walked back to the stairs. -"Yahhhh I am not going to melt down because of your cuteness Malini. I will sue you for your behavior." I looked at her & mocked her with tongue & giggled -" First catch me if you can" & with that she ran after me to my room.
On reaching my room she hugged me tightly-" Never play such kind of pranks. I really don't wanna lose you." I hugged her back -" Ok my cute gublu I won't. Now tell me why were you searching for me?" She released me & sat on the bed & handed me a paper. I saw a list of student's names for our next assignment. We were grouped in three. I was in group number 5 along with Ayan & Shruti. Our assignment was on "Surviving behavior of Spiders in all seasons". I again read our names -" Why is he in our group? Why am I with him? Why are you with him in the same group?" I furiously asked these questions. She held my hand -" Calm down Malini. It's just an assignment not something where you have to spend your entire life with him. Moreover your analysis about invertebrates was always accurate & he is an expert in Spiders so we are stuck together in this assignment." I took a deep breathe" Fine, I will accept this only because this is an assignment & also we have 20 marks on this. But other than assignments I don't wanna have any contact with him." She nodded her head & assured me. As Ayan went home for the next 3 days, we both headed to our HOD to discuss the topic & then towards the library to collect information. Shruti knew I will be spending my next 1 week in the library to gather different information about Spiders & then we three will sit together to work on it till we complete it. Though we have enough time to submit(after 2 months).
The next day we had our practical class first & then we had our small field work. From whichever way I would go to the class, I would meet up with those two kissing each other hungrily, sometimes under the staircase, in an empty classroom, behind the gym. " If you want, I can book a room in Oyo." as I said, they flinched in a bad way, making me laugh. " You are following us, Malini.. you are a maniac. " she scolded me with her red face & ran away from embarrassment while I laughed hard.
" Confessed or not?" I asked him, and he lowered his head. " Tera kuchh nehi ho sakta." I nodded my head & went back to my work. Later that night, after dinner, I witnessed something which I shouldn't. I was feeling bored, so I thought to take a walk late night through the veranda. I walked out of my room & saw Neha to enter in room no. 7. (In mind) "It's gonna be a wild & long night" with a smirk. As I started to walk, I could see their lights became dim & their moans could be heard. (In mind) "Let me put my earphones. I don't wanna witness their moans & groans. " While taking a walk, I noticed a shadow figure coming downstairs on the 1st floor. I hid myself behind a pillar & saw that figure pausing in front of room no. 7. It took out a thing from its pocket.
(In my mind) " Wait a minute, that figure looks like a female figure. By her way of standing, isn't she Diti?" I hid myself in dark & went a little bit near to her where light doesn't reach. My eyes widen. " she is Diti. What the fuck..... she is recording their private session!!" After a little pause I saw it, it was smiling at me just like in my childhood days & telling me to keep quiet by its finger on its lips. "Ayakashi," I smirked in my mind. I saw Diti's whole recording session. Sometimes, her chest was going up & down vigorously & the other times, her legs felt weak to me. "What the heck she was having orgasm just from watching... I guess Ayan can't satisfy her needs. " After her recording, she went towards the staircase by her shaky legs.
"Someone is going to get in trouble," Haru whispered in my ears as I took off my earphones. [Haru is the Ayakashi; a happy, cute, sweet, caring, yet troublesome spirit.] "Follow me Haru to my room." We came inside room no 13(my room) & Haru started laughing loudly. I didn't shush it because nobody could hear it except me. "Now tell me, what are you doing here? Following me or just messing around?"
Haru- " I was missing my master & also wanted to mess around with them who treats my master badly." I smiled at its cute angry pout. "Haru, I missed you too. Don't do anything extreme, ok Haru & you know that nobody knows here that I can see Ayakashi, so don't emerge doing mischievous stuff in daylight scaring me.... ok?" It nodded its so-called head. Suddenly, it striked me -" Haru, tell me the truth, do you know anything about these Shadowmorphs?" -" It's not like I know, but they are creating trouble for us like Ayakashis. They are absorbing us to make them more powerful & so on behalf of them, I came to you master for help. Help us Master. "
" I will try my best to help you all. Just need some time to figure it out. But I promise you, Haru, I will help you."
'' Thank you, my master now. If you excuse me, I will take my leave. Goodbye master". It evaporated in the air & I threw myself on bed.
Looking at the ceiling, I recalled my past life. Back in my childhood, I was treated so badly by my friends. They thought I was weird & I made up stories. They bullied me & made fun out of me because I was not normal in their eyes. I had psychic powers from my birth. Once their bully went too far & I was furious with their behavior. This made me harm one of my bullies, which wasn't in my control & it caused harm to them. I was expelled from my school. My family decided to send me to my grandparent's house in Japan as Japan is a well-mannered country & I will learn every manners there. I was 10 years old when I was sent to my grandparents & there I was admitted to a school where I neither made a friend nor a foe. I still remember that while coming back from school, I sat at the bank of a river with tears in my eyes. Suddenly, I felt someone's touch on my shoulder & saw an Ayakashi. I could see them from the beginning. It sat near me & wiped my tears. "Hi, my name is Haru. I know you can see us. I was also bullied by the other Ayakashis. They are so bad. But I thought humans were good. They are not. They are the worst, after all. So may I know your name, little human girl?" I looked at it & softly said my name. Then, we started to hang out more often. Once it was attacked by another Ayakashi & I saved it, from then on, Haru calls me master. After 8 years, when it was time for me to return back to my country, I met Haru for the last time(I thought so). " Haru, I have to go back to my country. I don't know when we will meet again. I can't thank you enough for being with me whenever I wanted you. But I will come back to visit you, Haru. I promise." Haru looked at me & said -" Master don't worry. If I sense your trouble, I will be there with you always & also you can summon me anytime you want to see me. So I am with you always." Thinking about all these things, I went to sleep.
Chapter 4-
His POV:
After dinner, it's my habit to go through my studies once more. Moreover we got our assignment's topics today, so yes it would take me 1 hour to search some articles & find out useful information. Around 11 o'clock I got a knock on my door. I opened it & was a little bit surprised to see Neha. She came inside & sat on my bed.
She -" Did I disturb you? I see you were going through books." I nodded my head as no & sat beside her. We looked into each other's eyes & didn't realize when our faces came so close that they were only a few centimeters away. Suddenly, I felt her soft lips on mine. My eyes widened & I forgot to kiss her. When I felt she was pulling back, I grabbed her by her waist & kissed her back softly. Her soft lips felt more sweet to me than any other thing. I held her head gently & deepened the kiss & she moaned in my mouth. She could keep up with my fast pace & wrapped her arms around my neck. After a few minutes, she tapped my back to indicate she was out of breath. "Man, I really didn't wanna leave her sweet lips tonight." We attached our foreheads together while breathing heavily. She kissed my left cheek & looked at me cutely.
" What was that for?"
She leaned on me -" I thought about it, whole day today & came to the conclusion that I like you, romantically. Maybe those kisses under the staircase & behind the gym may seem to you that it was just a stress relief by your help, but believe me, I do really like you. I want you to be my boyfriend, to be mine. I want to trust you more. Can I? Will you let me be your girlfriend? Can we give us a chance?" I looked at her & saw her eyes telling the truth. Without wasting any more time, I kissed her, making her surprised & gradually kissing me. I kissed on her forehead & and said ," You have no idea how much I have feelings for you & willing to make you mine. I would love to be your boyfriend. " She jumped on me like a happy child & kissed me again. I have never seen her so happy these days. Accidentally, she fell on me on my bed & her face became red. I smirked & took the opportunity to hover over her. She gasped as I kissed her nape. Her body shivered because of my touch. I looked into her eyes -" May I?" She blushed & said yes in a soft tone. I wrapped my one hand around her waist & intertwined with her one hand. She didn't dare to look into my eyes. I smelled her neck & kissed her. She arched her back & moaned softly in pleasure. I first warmed up a bit by free hand exercises & then started to practice Karate. I have learned martial arts as I am a diehard fan of Bruce Lee. As I was practicing, my eyes suddenly fell on the rooftop.
"Isn't that Malini? Why is she holding a stick in her hand & she is totally drenched in rain?" Then I saw her. She was like a pro Sword player (Fencer). The way she swung the stick & the way her eyes were determined in her aim was too perfect. She finished her practice & looked down. Our eyes met, but I could feel her anger in her gaze, as if she was frustrated in something. But in a few seconds, it turned into an uneasiness & she avoided our eye contact & went away. I was still looking at the roof when suddenly I was shaken by Arindam.
" What the hell, dude, I have been calling you for like 2 mins nonstop, but still it isn't reaching your ears. And what were you looking up? A shadowmorph"! He laughed at his own statement. " I saw Malini practicing fencing in the rain," I said, a bit worried. He looked at me in astonishment -" You gotta be kidding me. She is the most sweet & harmless girl in our batch. You had a dream, I guess. Have you always heard about the recent news? " I turned towards him -" What news?"
He -" A body was found near the Barasat railway station. Her name was Rita Sen & she worked in the IT sector as informed by her ID. It was found that she had a late night shift yesterday & as she was crossing the railway line, she was attacked by one of the shadowmorphs. But there is something odd in this murder. " I asked "What" & he continued -" This body was found headless & bloodless."
"Which means this shadowmorph killed her, then drank her blood & ate her head. Hmm, interesting. Want to go on the spot? " I asked him & he said yes.
