"In that case, you go handle the Ghost Tyrant. We Super-Level Mages will provide support."
After thinking it through, Councilman Zhu Meng finally stopped worrying about Mu Nianbing's safety.
"Alright."
Mu Nianbing didn't refuse this time—arguing would only make things troublesome.
With the conversion speed of his Death God's Blessing, there was no need to worry about anyone noticing anything strange.
The surrounding mages, however, were completely bewildered.
Several Super-Level Mages protecting a young Advanced Mage? The world must've gone mad.
"Councilman, isn't this too risky—putting our hopes on someone so young?" The short Staff Officer Zhu stepped forward, his tone clearly disapproving.
But Chief Instructor Feijiao, Military Commander Lu Xu, and Hunter King Du Xiao didn't voice any objections.
They didn't know much about Mu Nianbing, but they trusted Zhu Meng's judgment.
"Shut up! I'm the chief commander of this operation!" Zhu Meng roared, his tiger-like eyes narrowing sharply.
At ordinary times, he might've tolerated dissent—but not now. With undead at the gates, there was no room for argument.
Seeing Zhu Meng's fury, Staff Officer Zhu shrank back and immediately kept quiet.
"Since Councilman Zhu Meng has finalized the battle plan, we'll cooperate fully," Chief Instructor Feijiao said quickly, trying to ease the tension.
Lu Xu and Du Xiao both nodded. Even if this young mage wasn't entirely reliable, they could still carry out the decapitation plan effectively.
Besides the Ghost Tyrant, other high-level undead had also appeared outside the city—some even at Commander-Level.
Originally, Zhu Meng had intended to send out other mages for support, but Mu Nianbing immediately rejected the idea.
"With the Totem Black Serpent in battle, sending more mages would only cause unnecessary casualties," he said bluntly.
Zhu Meng opened his mouth to object but froze as Mu Nianbing raised the Totem Pearl and released the serpent.
He didn't release it within the city walls—doing so would've destroyed half the city in an instant. Instead, he released it outside.
Even so, the colossal form of the Black Serpent loomed higher than the city walls themselves.
Gasps and cries of disbelief erupted from every mage nearby. For a moment, no one even remembered to breathe.
"Is that... the guardian serpent from West Lake?!" Commander Lu Xu exclaimed.
After the Hangzhou Crisis, news of the Totem Black Serpent's existence had spread widely. People knew it as Hangzhou's guardian deity.
With its help, slaying the Ghost Tyrant would indeed be no problem.
No wonder Zhu Meng trusted this young man so much.
Ignoring everyone's astonishment, Mu Nianbing teleported to the top of the Black Serpent's head.
Every mage below looked up, their faces a mixture of awe, envy, and longing.
To ride such a mighty and domineering being—even once—would be enough to boast about for a lifetime!
"Councilman Zhu Meng, I won't wait for you," Mu Nianbing called down.
With that, he urged the serpent forward. The Black Serpent glided through the night sky like a shadowed mountain, crossing thousands of meters in an instant.
Zhu Meng's mouth twitched. "This kid… still so reckless."
Still, he had to admit—having Mu Nianbing here made things much easier.
"Let's go too," Zhu Meng ordered.
Flames flared from his back as fiery wings spread wide. Feijiao, Lu Xu, and Du Xiao activated Wind Wings or their Magic Tools and followed closely behind.
The mages left behind exchanged helpless looks. Were they… just here for show?
On the way to the Ghost Tyrant's location, Mu Nianbing and the Black Serpent cut through hordes of undead.
Everywhere the serpent passed, the ground was left scorched, frozen, or shattered.
Mu Nianbing harvested the fallen undead with his Scythe of Death, converting them into his own army.
By the time Zhu Meng and the others arrived, the battlefield was eerily quiet.
The Black Serpent had already eradicated the White Ghost Minister and its entire White Shadow Horde.
"As expected of a Supreme Monarch… it dealt with them so fast," Zhu Meng murmured in awe, having no idea what had actually occurred.
High above, Mu Nianbing and the Black Serpent hovered over the Ghost Tyrant.
Below, endless undead minions swarmed around the massive undead lord—some even at Commander level.
Without a word from its master, the Black Serpent opened its maw and unleashed a cloud of black-green mist.
Though the undead were resistant to poison, this was no ordinary venom—it was corrosive, melting through bones and armor alike.
Within seconds, every undead below Commander-level had melted into sludge, and even the stronger ones were severely corroded.
Having cleared the area, the Black Serpent dived, slamming into the Ghost Tyrant and coiling tightly around it.
"Mystic Ice Domain!"
Mu Nianbing raised his hand, freezing the air and ground in a massive radius.
The domain had little effect on the Ghost Tyrant itself, but it annihilated the remaining undead nearby.
The Black Serpent constricted, crushing the Ghost Tyrant's ribcage, then lunged forward and bit into its neck.
According to Zhu Meng, the Undead Crystal—its core—was embedded behind its neck.
When the serpent tore open the wound, Mu Nianbing conjured an Ice Dragon that swooped down and shattered the exposed crystal.
Immediately afterward, the Scythe of Death flared with black light, and Mu Nianbing harvested the Ghost Tyrant's soul.
By the time Zhu Meng and the others finally arrived, the battlefield was still swirling with frost and venomous mist.
"It's… already over?"
They looked around, dumbfounded. They had flown as fast as they could, yet they hadn't even witnessed the fight.
It was simply unbelievable.
"You all came too late," Mu Nianbing said calmly. "The Ghost Tyrant has already been dealt with—by the Totem Black Serpent."
He credited the serpent without hesitation.
Without its sheer might, he wouldn't have been able to finish the Ghost Tyrant so easily—and even if he told the truth, no one would believe it anyway.
"As expected of the Totem Black Serpent!" Zhu Meng sighed with admiration.
He hadn't doubted the serpent's strength, but he hadn't expected the battle to end this quickly.
Truly, the totems were humanity's greatest guardians.
With the Ghost Tyrant slain, the group turned back toward the city.
But as they approached the walls, their faces paled.
From beyond the horizon, the ground itself was rippling—an endless wave of undead still advancing toward the Ancient Capital.
"What's going on?!" Zhu Meng exclaimed. "The Ghost Tyrant is dead—why are they still coming?!"
"Councilman Zhu Meng," Mu Nianbing said solemnly, "this might be connected to what I warned you about this morning."
Zhu Meng froze, realization dawning. The undead's strange behavior wasn't random after all.
"What do you suggest?"
"I suggest we evacuate the residents of the outer city immediately," Mu Nianbing replied. "If we wait any longer, it'll be too late."
