The meeting continued for another hour, with Damian and Kael subtly arguing through the guise of discussing strategy.
And through it all, Asher felt like a prize being fought over.
When the meeting finally ended, Damian caught Asher's arm as he tried to leave.
"A word, Asher?"
"I have another meeting—"
"It will only take a moment."
Kael appeared at Asher's other side. "Actually, Asher and I need to discuss the budget allocations for his other projects. Damian, we can schedule a follow-up meeting for later this week."
Damian's smile didn't falter, but his eyes went cold. "Of course. Though I do need Asher's input on something time-sensitive. Perhaps he could stop by my office after your meeting?"
"He'll be tied up the rest of the afternoon."
"Tomorrow morning then."
"He has obligations tomorrow morning."
"I see." Damian released Asher's arm slowly. "You're very protective of your assistant's schedule, Kael. One might think you're trying to keep him away from me."
